About the Job
The YMCA READS! Site Coordinator is directly responsible for supervision, coordination, volunteer recruitment, retention and training of YMCA READS! Sites. Shall be specifically responsible for furthering the purposes of the YMCA by strengthening relationships, listening actively and building character with all YMCA constituencies. Provides a safe, fun and educational environment for all School Aged program participants.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plan and implement appropriate daily lesson/mentoring plan and support volunteers/mentors in carrying out activities.
- Train staff and volunteers on facilitation of READS! Program, as well as literacy skills.
- Develop ideas for Family Nights and communication to encourage family support of the program objectives and to build strong families.
- Develop and maintain relationships with principal, guidance staff and reading specialists at program school sites to promote a team approach to youth mentoring.
- Maintains client and staff confidentiality.
- Communicate and promote the YMCA mission, goals and objectives to the legislature, employees, volunteers, members and the community at large.
- Maintain and input accurate records on a daily basis.
- Participate, as directed, in corporate assignments, annual fundraising, special projects, etc.
- Ensure all governmental, YMCA, and organizational records and reporting requirements are in compliance.
- Model healthy behaviors in line with YMCA's HEPA standards.
- Attends required abuse risk management training, follows mandated abuse reporting requirements and adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
- Minimum 1-2 years experience in education, volunteer development, marketing, public relations, problem solving and mentoring.
- Knowledge of marketing and volunteer development.
- Have administrative abilities and be detail oriented.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experienced in child care management or school age literacy.
- Experienced in volunteer recruitment, training and retention.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and utilize initiative, ability to be organized and to meet deadlines.
- Work to continue personal competency through education, outside literature, seminars, etc.
- Computer experience in a Windows environment, Microsoft Office (Excel, WORD), ability to learn and utilize other software programs.
- Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements as well as meet the Association's policies on background screening.
- Possess a valid Florida driver's license; position requires 10-15% local travel
$ 19.50 -$22.00/ h. Full benefit package including health insurance, paid time off, YMCA membership, child care & employer-paid retirement plan upon eligibility. Criminal background screening and drug test required.
