Job Summary
We are seeking a Manager to join Equinix’s xScale Direct Tax Team, responsible for US income tax compliance, Real Estate Investment Trust (“REIT”) compliance and providing assistance in US tax audits, research, and planning. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in US partnership taxation and/or REIT taxation, and a thorough understanding of US tax laws and regulations. This position reports directly to the xScale Income Tax Senior Manager.
Responsibilities
Manage and oversee all US tax compliance activities for multiple xScale joint venture entities, including managing the preparation of US federal, state, and local income tax returns and reviewing to ensure accuracy and adherence to relevant tax laws and regulations. This includes US partnership tax returns, REIT tax returns, and corporate income tax returns
Ensure timely and accurate filing of all US tax returns, extensions, and estimated tax payments
Manage and oversee quarterly and annual REIT testing processes and compliance
Collaborate with the xScale controllership team to accurately report tax provisions and deferred tax assets/liabilities in financial statements prepared in accordance with US GAAP
Coordinate and manage US tax audits and examinations conducted by tax authorities, working closely with third-party advisors to ensure timely and accurate responses to inquiries and requests
Build and maintain strong relationships with third-party tax and REIT advisors to leverage their expertise and ensure accurate reporting of items in tax returns and financial statements
Stay updated on changes in US tax laws, regulations, and rulings, and provide guidance to internal stakeholders on the potential impact of these changes
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, finance, and operations, to ensure tax considerations are appropriately addressed
Provide guidance and support to junior tax professionals and foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment
Other ad hoc xScale income tax projects, as needed
Qualifications
Strong experience in federal and multi-state income tax compliance
Experience with ASC 740 preferred
Experience working with third-party advisors, such as tax consultants and auditors, and managing relationships with external stakeholders
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax regulations and apply them to practical situations
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
Proven leadership and management abilities, with the capacity to mentor and develop junior tax professionals
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in US income tax compliance and planning for US entities, with a strong focus on US partnerships and/or REITs, preferably in a public accounting firm or a corporate tax department
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
A Master’s degree in Taxation or a relevant professional certification (e.g., CPA) preferred
