Wound Care Nurse :
Join our Austin Oasis nursing team as a Wound Care Nurse. We prefer that you have at least two years of experience in wound care and possess a knowledge of nursing care for a geriatric population with acute and chronic illness—as well as strong communication and organizational skills. You must also be currently licensed in the State of Illinois as either an RN or an LPN and CPR certified. Certification in wound care preferred but not required.
Position Purpose:
The Wound Care Nurse reports to and receives general direction from the Director of Nursing and is responsible for delivering quality wound care and preventative measures to maintain skin integrity to assigned residents in compliance with applicable federal and state guidelines and established policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
· Administer treatments and procedures in accordance with the physician’s orders.
· Ensure that residents are medicated prior to treatments when appropriate
· Observe and document resident’s response to treatment at a minimum weekly and as needed. Ensure proper disposal of treatment supplies.
· Ensure adequate levels of treatment ointments, supplies and equipment are available at all times. Report any needs to the Director of Nursing.
· Handle any emergency situations in a prompt, precise and professional manner.
· Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each residents while performing treatments.
· Interact with residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment. Maintain a comprehensive understanding and adherence to all aspects of resident rights. including the right to be free of abuse. Promptly report to the Administrator all incidents or evidence of resident abuse or violation of resident’s rights.
· Assist with orienting residents and families to the wound care process upon admission.
· Promptly report injuries of unknown origin to the Floor Nurse and Director of Nursing, including skin tears.
· Communicate and interact effectively, courteously, and tactfully with residents, visitors, family members, peers, and supervisors.
Requirements
- SN degree (strongly preferred)
- Current state licensure as an (LPN) or registered nurse (RN)
- CPR and basic life support (BLS) certifications (preferred)
- Certification and prior experience in wound care preferred .
