Motlow State is located in the beautiful rolling hills of middle Tennessee and has four campuses that serve students from eleven counties. General Function:
Manage Women’s Basketball program within confines set by Athletic Director, the NJCAA and the TCCAA rules. Assess student-athlete skills. Recruit student athletes motivated to graduate from Motlow State and be the best they can be both on and off the court. Ensure each student-athlete on the team is on a path to graduate, competes on the basketball court at the highest level, and ensure that each student-athlete remains financially and academically eligible to participate in athletics.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree earned from a regionally accredited institution and two years’ experience as a head basketball coach or four years’ experience as an assistant coach at the college level or four years’ experience as a head basketball coach at the high school or AAU level. Knowledge of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) rules. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree earned from a regionally accredited institution and two years’ experience as a head basketball coach or four years’ experience as an assistant coach at the college level or four years’ experience as a head basketball coach at the high school level. Knowledge of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) rules. Ability to be credentialed to teach in a discipline offered at Motlow State. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage Women’s Basketball program within confines set by Athletic Director, the NJCAA and the TCCAA rules. Work within the confines of the existing program budget as determined by the athletic director. Compile, prepare and submit all reports or proper documents required for management of the program, student-athletes and student-athlete transfers within established timelines.
- Adhere to NJCAA and TCCAA rules. Report any activities or situations that may be violations of Motlow policies, and NJCAA or TCCAA rules to the Athletic Director immediately
- Organize and direct team activities, including practice, conditioning, study hall, and all game-day activities. Organize and conduct team activities that benefit surrounding communities. Motivate student-athletes to perform at their peak level on the court or field and in the classroom. Secure personnel and equipment to film games and keep accurate game statistics
- Conduct in-season and offseason planning; including scheduling, equipment, field or court maintenance, student-athlete financial aid, student-athlete eligibility, road-trip accommodations, etc. in a timely manner as determined by the Athletic Director
- Assist the Sports Information Director with promotion of their program through media interviews, updated statistics, photo opportunities, etc. Conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on Motlow State on the court and field as well as in the community
- Cultivate relationships with high schools that support and enhance recruiting of high-caliber student-athletes
- Recruit student-athletes, while complying with all NJCAA and TCCAA rules, who are motivated to become the best they can be on and off the court or field and who are motivated to graduate from Motlow State. Evaluate and compare athletic talent for potential growth and development of student-athletes. Maintain correspondence with a large number of prospects: e-mail, letters, and phone throughout the recruitment process.
- Conduct fundraising opportunities and activities as approved by the Athletic Director
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of their team locker rooms, facilities and office areas, as well as keep the weight room and training room functional.
- Coaches who do not teach will be assigned additional duties commiserate with their educational and work background for 15-hours a week of non-athletic service to the college.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong working knowledge of NJCAA and TCCAA Rules and understanding of all NJCAA and TCCAA rules and regulations regarding compliance issues
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
- Knowledge of confidentiality statutes and policies as they apply to FERPA, student-athletes and student programs
- Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with students, colleagues and other stakeholders to facilitate student and program success
