What you will be doing:
A Wireless Network Technician must set up, monitor and upgrade wireless infrastructures, such as wireless controllers, network access control systems and guest user systems, and maintain the wireless environment of an organization. They are responsible for performing on - site wireless validation surveys as well as AP on a Stick surveys.
Technicians must install networks utilizing wiring and cable termination, as well as:
- Set up wireless radios and antennas
- Connect and install hardware-router-switches, patch panel terminations, servers, local machines, printers, and SIP phones
- Provide network accounts and passwords as required
- Provide security for all technology
- Maintain IP addresses
- Collaborate with other departments for delivering equipment for repair
- Resolve issues related to equipment, such as scanners, printers, smart devices, and phone systems.
- Network Technicians will work near infrastructure and must maintain radio communication technical instruments and field equipment, conduct radio frequency measurements, maintain hybrid fiber/coaxial broadband cable networks, and handle on-site WiMAX customer equipment and broadband wireless access equipment. Network Technicians also manage and cross check configuration backups on wireless controllers and other network equipment.
Technicians must collaborate with IT help desks to resolve wireless configuration issues, including:
- Offering level-three support for wireless issues reported by IT user services teams
- Identifying, rectifying and replacing malfunctioning wireless access points (WAP)
- Locating and resolving rogue WAPs and other interferences
- Recording and maintaining user support documentation for wireless systems
- Testing any new wireless client devices and document required settings
- WAP positioning and wireless installations, including provisioning, physical placement, and testing of new WAPs
- Examining wireless coverage to determine if WAP placement and settings are providing a sufficient level of service
- Developing statistical reports on usage and the quality of wireless networks
- Troubleshooting issues related to operating systems as well as anti-virus and anti-spyware programs
- Staying up to date with knowledge about new Wireless Local Area Networking (WLAN) technologies
Essential:
- Minimum: Education level – High school diploma/GED equivalent, or Associates Degree.
- Preferred: 1-2 years of work experience. Our technicians use Ekahau software for surveys, so experience with Ekahau or Air Magnet is highly beneficial.
- Knowledge of basic electronics
- Strong understanding of mathematics and science
- Ability to move equipment up to 75 pounds
- Strong multitasking skills
- Willingness to work as a team player
- Strong communication and customer service skills

- Cisco Certified Network Associate Wireless (CCNA Wireless)
- Cisco Certified Network Professional Wireless (CCNP Wireless)
- CompTIA Network+
- Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA)
- Certified Wireless Security Professional (CWSP)
