About the Job
Position Statement:
Promote general nutrition education and awareness of special dietary needs as related to WIC participants and their individual diets. Assist the WIC Program Coordinator/Nutritionist in the diet evaluation for all age groups involved in WIC, assist in nutritional counseling on a one-to-one basis and provide follow-up and referrals to all WIC participants.
Bilingual Spanish Speaking Preferred
Essential Functions of the Job:
- To assist in certification of participants by evaluation of diets to determine nutritional adequacy by performing medical functions of taking height, weight and hemoglobin tests to determine medical risks and by completing the certification information in ROSIE.
- To assist in the development and utilization of educational materials, newsletters and other programs, using materials deemed necessary for the instruction and education of the participants.
- To keep abreast of new WIC procedures and directives issued by the State Department of Health and the USDA.
- To keep files on participant counseling accurate and up-to date.
- To encourage and use material and supplies that promote breastfeeding as the first choice for pregnant women.
- Responsible for gathering all data pertinent to program needs, program effectiveness, and quality.
- To be accountable for agency confidentiality of participant records.
- Attend meetings relevant to WIC as requested by supervisor.
- Aware of OSHA's and CLIA's requirements and practices using these techniques.
- Screen, assess and counsel high risk clients.
- Vendoring/FMNP (Farmer's Market Nutrition Program) Farmers Monitoring and Training.
- Breastfeeding promotion, education, and assessment.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Education: Associate Degree in Nutritional Sciences or related field required; B.S. preferred.
- Experience:
- Expertise: Demonstrated interest and aptitude in providing nutritional counseling to participants.
Able to function effectively with participants, supervisor, and personnel.
Able to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
Computer background desirable.
- Language: Comprehend and use basic language either written or spoken to communicate information and ideals.
- Hours of Work: May vary based on Organizational need.
- Travel: May vary based on Organizational need.
