Position Title: WIC Nutritionist/Competent Professional Authority (CPA) 

Starting Wage: $24.00/hour or $46,800 Annually based on 1,950 (37.5 hour work week)

POSITION SUMMARY

The WIC Nutritionist provides nutrition education and counseling, breastfeeding education and support, prescribes appropriate food packages and provides internal/external resources and referrals to participants. Works under the direction and supervision of the division Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Provides no direct supervision to Health Department staff.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

This position is under the direct supervision of the assigned Manager and Division Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Determine participant eligibility through nutritional assessments, hematological testing and anthropometric measurements.
2. Provide participant-centered nutrition education and counseling
3. Provide appropriate community referrals to participants.
4. Provide breastfeeding education and support to participants.
5. Analyze and prescribe appropriate food packages to participants, including medically prescribed formulas.
6. Maintain electronic client records/documentation.
7. Assist with promotion of the WIC program and outreach.
8. Participant in in-service education, staff meetings, and conferences.
9. Participant in quality improvement projects and community health needs assessment.
10. Adhere to all applicable program policies and procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

• Registered Dietitian: An individual who uses the title Registered Dietitian (R.D.) and can provide proof of current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

-OR- 

• Nutritionist: nonregistered nutritionist/dietitian who has a Baccalaureate or Master's degree in Nutrition Sciences, Dietetics, Community Nutrition or Public Health Nutrition.

-OR-

• A registration-eligible dietitian who has received written approval from the Commission on Dietetic Registration to take the Registration Examination but has not completed it.

-IN ADDITION-

• One year of public health experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE ABILITIES

• The ability to sit, flex, stand, reach, and bend.
• The physical strength to lift, carry, and transport materials/equipment equivalent to thirty (30) pounds.
• Visual acuity, auditory ability, and clear written and verbal communication ability.
• Manual dexterity and the ability for data input into various computer programs.
• The ability to maintain professional behavior at all times.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must reside within St. Clair County, IL or be willing to relocate to St. Clair County within six (6) months from hire date. 
• Theabilitytoworknecessaryhourstomeetthepositionrequirementsincludingeveningsand/or weekendsasassigned.
• May require provision of services at off-site locations.
• A validIllinois Driver'sLicense.
• A dependable automobileforuse in position.
• Autoinsuranceineffect with at least the minimum limits of liabilityas outlined and required by the state of Illinois.
• Adherence to all local, state and federal regulations pertaining to OSHA guidelines.
• Health Department employees:
  • Are required to have a TB test upon hire and separation of employment.
  • Must be current on CDC Healthcare Personnel Vaccine Recommendations, which include  Hepatitis B, MMR (Measles, Mumps Rubella), Td/Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis), Varicella (chickenpox) and Meningococcal if over 65. Influenza and COVID vaccines are recommended and encouraged, but not required at this time and maybe subject to change.
