The Nutrition Assistant I is responsible for screening women, infants, and children to determine eligibility for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition Program. The Nutrition Assistant I also serve as receptionist for the clinic, print and issue food instruments and implements TrueCare and WIC policies and procedures.Duties & Responsibilities:
- Answer incoming phone calls, providing requested information or referring the call to the appropriate staff member.
- Cordially greet and assist participants with completion of WIC eligibility forms.
- Screen women, infants and children for WIC program eligibility using the WIC database.
- Collect information for the nutrition assessment process, including obtaining heights, weights, and hemoglobin screenings.
- Orient new participants to the WIC Program, voucher use, rights, and responsibilities, and what to expect at WIC appointments.
- Promote breastfeeding as the recommended method of infant feeding.
- Refer participants to health and social services, as needed, and document follow-up.
- Print and issue vouchers to participants.
- Maintain check stock security.
- Participate in stocking, organizing, and keeping common areas tidy.
- Support WIC Program Administration by assisting with workgroups, outreach, and other assignments.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum one (1) year experience in customer service.
- Computer proficiency, particularly with data entry and the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Associate degree in nutrition, food science, dietetics, or related field.
- Knowledge of the WIC Program and maternal child health.
- Knowledge of nutrients/foods as well as familiarity of life cycle nutritional needs (pregnancy, breastfeeding, infancy, and children).
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.

If you are hired at TrueCare, your final base salary (within the pay range), will be determined based on factors such as education, knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members when determining any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth.
