About The Role
Believe it or not this is a new role. We have been fortunate enough to have built a business via referral that has fueled consistent growth based on the quality of our work and the commitment and consistency of our service. But we are now ready for a dedicated new business partner who can understand our unique offering. We are not owned by a big holding company which gives us the freedom to pursue the right clients who we can grow with and who can grow with us.
We are looking for a new business development killer who is connected, outward facing and thrives on net new relationship building. As our Head of New Business Development, you have a proven track record of having built new relationships with consumer facing brands either at a small creative agency, branding shop or consultancy. You have worked in the beauty, fashion, design or direct to consumer brand space or have experience working with fast growing brands in general. You are also a person that enjoys being out there, loves attending industry events and hanging out with potential brand clients.
You are also strategic, thoughtful and known for being a creative thinker with the ability to think on your feet. You also love presenting and know how to create energy in a room. Moreover, you have had some experience working with a team as you will have access to a small team for pitch prep, research and presentation development.
As the Head of New Business Development for Wellcom US, you will be representing all three of our US businesses and will need to develop a deep understanding of their strengths, specialities and how they collaborate together. As a people, we are collaborators. It’s why we start building relationships from our very first meetings. There’s no top talent at a pitch that disappears when a project begins. The experts our clients meet are the same ones working right alongside them.
Because of our track record in growing relationships, we’ll take project work from a fast growing client in lieu of facing off against much larger agencies in an RFP shout out any day of the week. Many of our current clients like Sealy, Lumber Liquidators, etc started out as project based relationships but grew over time into multi million dollar retainer clients as their needs grew.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic - Go to market Plan: Develop and implement a strategy that outlines the types of clients you plan to pursue, how you plan to go about it (your process), what kind of support and investment you will require and the amount of time you project it will take for you to gain traction in your new business development effort.
- Refine the Wellcom USP: Work with leadership to determine Wellcom’s unique selling proposition - i.e. competitive strengths and areas of opportunity and then identify the categories and classes of business that Wellcom should target for growth.
- Competitive Market Analysis: Review the competitive landscape for Wellcom based on its core USP and determine the agencies and firms fall into Wellcom’s competitive set, what they are doing well and where their weaknesses are.
- Pitch/Presentation: Evaluate Wellcom’s current new business pitch/presentation based on the above and lead the development of revised pitch materials as needed in collaboration with leadership and other key voices.
- Net New Client Development Pipeline and Reporting: Develop a client by client campaign strategy that yields a robust pipeline. Be able to demonstrate and report on how you are advancing prospective clients through the sales process on a regular/real time basis.
- Relationship Management: Establish and build net new senior client relationships that have the potential to grow over time.
- Net New Revenue Growth: Drive Wellcom’s net new revenue growth through new client acquisitions based on revenue goals and objectives as mutually agreed to with leadership.
- Team Leadership: Lead, inspire and mentor a team of two, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence in the new business pitch and development process.
- Collaborative Culture: Work closely with leadership across the US org to ensure your efforts are aligned, supported and consistent with our collaborative culture.
- Market Reporting & Analysis: Develop a process/approach to monitor key market indicators reviews, wins and losses in the competitive landscape as well a method to report on the effectiveness of your business development activity and initiatives. Demonstrate your ability to adjust/optimize your approach/strategies accordingly.
Requirements
What You Bring
- 8+ years of experience in successful pipeline and net new business development in the advertising, branding, consulting, design or media industry with a focus on digital.
- An independent, entrepreneurial mindset (vs a corporate mindset)
- Strategic mindset with a reputation for being able to quickly decode marketing challenges and identify creative solutions and opportunities
- You are a marketer who knows how to sell, with the ability to build trusted relationships with other marketing professionals.
- You have an established network of senior level relationships at the brand level with the kinds of companies and brands that would make sense for Wellcom US.
- You are also just as focused on building new relationships as you are on maintaining the relationships you have.
- You bring a deep understanding of the advertising, marketing and media landscape and get excited by great brands who do great things
- You also get the social platforms and the influencer space and are in the loop on the memes of the moment. You are also familiar with the brands who are doing innovative promotions and campaigns in the social and influencer space. A track record selling through innovative digital and social campaign work - with examples you can point to is a big plus.
- You have familiarity with multiple categories of business and have experience working with high growth consumer facing brands working across strategy, brand & campaign development, customer acquisition/ecommerce, brick and mortar in-store, etc.
- You get omnichannel marketing and have developed a deep understanding of the customer journey and are fluent on how to activate across all phases and channels.
- You bring excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills and demonstrate leadership potential - ie the ability to build and inspire a team.
- You are data driven and understand the tools required to make decisions and build a successful new business development machine
- You come with a Bachelor’s/Post Graduate degree from an accredited four year college or university.
