ITS has a client in the Bowling Green, OH area seeking a Weld Engineer. This is a direct hire role with full benefits including 401k.
Role Summary
The Weld Engineer (WE) will provide technical welding expertise to all applicable areas of the division. The WE is responsible for the evaluation and recommendations associated with new and existing programs as it relates to weld assembly processing, tooling and equipment. The WE will develop, implement and maintain weld parameters for: the new/existing equipment; weld schedules; test procedures in coordination with Ultrasound/Weld Destruct processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical welding expertise to division personnel to support existing and new customer programs.
- Lead all root cause investigations into weld related defects
- Develop and implement documents and procedures for validation of welding equipment and processes to meet or exceed customer specifications and provide guidance and input for the setup and programming of robots for welding best practices.
- Develop and implement work instructions for manual weld and repair requirements.
- Participate in APQP processes relating to the design of weld assembly work cells and tooling, make recommendations as required.
- Evaluate processes/equipment and make continuous improvement recommendations in the weld quality and process.
- Develop, and implement a training program for skilled trades and assigned personnel in robotic and hand; Projection, Spot and GMAW welding techniques and procedures and in the troubleshooting and repair of robotic and manual welding equipment.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
- 4 year degree in Weld Engineering Technology or documented equivalent combination of education & work related experience required.
- 6 – 8 years of work related experience: resistance and MIG welding and repair; mechanical and electrical fabrication and repair; robotic welder programming and troubleshooting
Technical Education
- Knowledge of weld processes, both MIG and resistance spot welding
- Programming of robotic welders and repairs to same
- Blueprint reading
- Basic and advanced electrical knowledge including ability to read schematics
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Good mathematical knowledge including trigonometry
- Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) preferred
