To perform the job, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform to the following Process, Quantity, and Quality Standards:
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform processes for various types of weld preparation, fabrication, welding, and weld finishing operations.
- Manufacture product to customer drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction.
- Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows safety regulations.
- Ability to weld on a flat, curved, or vertical surface.
- Ability to set a welding machine, including the gas, volts, amps, and wire speed.
- Ability to weld in a variety of positions, particularly overhead.
- Be able to make minor adjustments to the welding equipment as needed.
- Properly load raw materials, parts, etc., into the welding fixture.
- Removes workpiece and scrap from machines.
- Files, grinds, or scrapes sharp edges, burrs, scales, or rust from workpieces.
- Hammers out bent or warped spots in metal.
- Sorts, marks, tags finished work.
- Transports material or signal crane operator to move materials.
- Compares workpiece with a straight edge or template to verify conformance to specifications.
- Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
- Perform other routine duties as needed.
Job Requirements: To perform the job, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform to the following Process, Quantity, and Quality Standards:
- The employee must be able to use pneumatic power tools and equipment of all types.
- The employee must be able to accurately read a tape measure.
- The employee must be able to perform and remember how to perform multiple tasks from day to day.
- The employee must be able to perform the physical requirements listed in that section of this job description.
- The employee must look for potential cost savings in the work process, help keep scrap and waste to a minimum, and be efficient in the use of all supplies.
- The employee must perform the assigned tasks in a manner in which they meet or exceed the required production level.
- The number of units, parts, assemblies, and/or installations that are expected will vary with the process being performed, customer specification, volume, and location.
- A welder must inspect his/her product as instructed by standard operating procedures.
Qualifications: To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each of the essential functions and skills listed below:
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure and other measuring tools.
- Ability to work with hands and to work in mechanically oriented situations following the supervisor's instruction.
- Aptitude to learn and retain new information.
- Ability to follow instructions, given either verbally or in writing.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to read blueprints and manufacturing orders.
Education and experience:
- Successful completion of an internal welding test
- Diploma/GED and 2 years of solid work history.
- Math skills: Ability to add two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
Physical Demands/Work Environment: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. - Ability to stand and move about on concrete 8-12 hours a day. Ability to see, walk, bend, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, carry, climb (including ladders), work overhead, push, and pull.
- Ability to do the heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) multiple times daily in a 10 to 12-hour shift.
- Ability to maneuver large parts and assemblies (up to 180 pounds) by pushing, pulling, and flipping them into place.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- The use of Safety Glasses is required.
- Steel or Composite Toed Boots and hearing protection in required areas.
Work Environment:
- Employees must wear all mandated PPE which includes at least protection for the eyes, ears, hands, head, body, and feet.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration. The employee occasionally works near mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to dust and/or fumes
- Will be required to perform duties as requested, directed or assigned.
