Web Developer (Department of Veteran Affairs) - DCG Communications

About the Job
DCG Communications (DCG) is seeking a Web Developer to develop, implement, and maintain new and existing web functionality and content for our Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) client’s websites (Internet and Intranet) and web applications, as well as coordinate new features and design elements that drive traffic to their site.
Location: At DCG, many of our team members including this role are remote. With over 100 employees based in 28 states (and counting!), DCG is committed to hiring talented employees across the United States. The selected candidate will work during DCG’s core Eastern Standard Time business hours.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Coordinate maintenance functions with the Office of Information Technology (OIT), such as web certificates, server, environment, and security.
- Meet 100% of the Section 508 Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
- Utilize Human Centered Design (HCD) principles for all product development and operations efforts.
- Test and deploy all website deliverables using an agile process and provide mock-up recommendations for internet and intranet forms/templates, web pages and web applications to receive feedback from potential consumers and iterate on website/webpage development designs.
- Ensure consistency and continuity in information architecture, including Uniform Resource Locator (URL) schema, page layout, menus and navigation, user flows, and search engine optimization.
- Provide website development support, including content development, content structuring for usability, taxonomy, website navigation, content performance analysis, communications, and ongoing business operations support regarding Internet and Intranet sites.
- Use Drupal, TeamSite, and WordPress CMS to facilitate the creation, management, and administration of the digital content lifecycle.
- Develop, remediate, and test all website content according to Section 508, Accessibility and Usability requirements established by the Government.
- Use Section 508 tools to remediate website content.
- Update websites online site maps and customized 404 templates
- Perform monthly and annual updates and ensure changes to the web contents are accurately displayed.
- Provide coverage Monday through Friday, during regular working hours (8am ET to 5pm ET).
- Update website requests within four hours for emergency incidents that are rare. Emergency incidents include but not limited to weather related, national, and environmental emergencies.
Required Skills:
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience with ColdFusion Markup Language (CFML), Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), TeamSite CMS, Note Pad ++ software program, Drupal CMS, and WordPress VIP CMS.
- Proven experience with 508 accessibility.
- Experience with developing web landscape analysis and making recommendations.
- Ability to think like an end user with an eye for design.
- Experience in responsive web coding.
- Proven understanding of marketing concepts and user interfaces.
- A proactive approach to work.
- A can-do attitude with great communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain proper access and badge required to enter and work on the Federal client’s website.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with Department of Veteran Affairs (VA)
- Possess active PIV badge with Department of Veteran Affairs (VA)
