GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
UMass Medical School’s Information Technology Innovation Internship program is designed to provide exceptional opportunities for talented students and to strengthen UMMS’ technology ecosystem through the innovative ideas and infectious energy of the interns. Responsibilities:MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Utilize innovative ideas and approaches to assist in the development of working models to serve the needs of our faculty, students and researchers
- Complete a project from start to finish and write-up and present the work product to the UMass community
- Participate in team projects
- Conduct online research
- Perform other duties as required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a currently enrolled student in a higher education institution or recent graduate
- Solid analytical and communication skills
- Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources
- Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours
- Proven interest in IT and passion in furthering the mission of UMMS
- Must have above average academic performance
Web Application Development Intern
Information Technology at The University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School has a unique opportunity for a Web Application Development Intern to join us in improving operational efficiency and customer satisfaction through enhancements to an internal web application.
The Information Technology - Research Technology team is looking for a creative and motivated individual who is passionate about software development to:
- Gain real-world experience with front-end and back-end API development using the latest web development frameworks and serverless cloud technologies.
- Follow the Agile methodology to continuously deliver value through your contributions.
- Actively seek opportunities for improvement and suggest changes to enhance the application's functionality and appearance.
- Assist with troubleshooting and resolving issues that are reported by application users.
- Ensure quality control through unit testing and debugging software for accuracy, completeness, and system integrity.
- Create documentation that ensures your contributions to the web application are sustainable by the department after the internship.
Together, we’ll understand and prioritize feature requests for an internal web application. As a Web Application Development Intern, you’ll contribute to a project and make a difference at University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School.
Creative contributors apply! You’ll work with an IT Research Technology team passionate about emerging technologies and best practices in web application and cloud technology.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with web development frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js)
- Experience with API development frameworks (e.g., Express.js, Flask, Django)
- Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git)
- Outstanding listener with attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and commitments.
- A developing understanding of current trends and best practices in web application development
- Demonstrated ability to build positive and productive professional relationships
- Possesses positive attitude and creativity
- Willingness to be innovative, flexible, engaging and empowered throughout the delivery cycle.

This is paid internship position
Duration: 6 months with possibility for extension up to 12 months
