POSITION DEFINITION: Water Supply Operator III
Accountability
The Water Supply Operator III may be a Designated Shift Operator position per California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) definition and works under the general direction of the Water Supply Superintendent or Operations Superintendent.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads and participates in the operations of a variety of water supply and treatment equipment such as:
- Pumping systems
- Chemical feeders
- Measuring and control systems
- Groundwater wells
- Filtration and exchange units
- Responsible for skilled and semi-skilled work in the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of diverse sources of supply and treatment systems including various types of groundwater treatment systems.
- Train, mentor, and provide general direction to Water Supply Operators I and II.
- Oversees the performance of efficiency tests on pumps and related equipment.
- Performs advanced maintenance of plant equipment and facilities
- Loads and unloads chemicals
- Performs basic and intermediate laboratory analytical techniques on water samples
- Performs calculations related to dosing, flow rates, and other weights and measures
- Responsible for treatment and supply recordkeeping.
- Tracks and maintains chemical inventory.
- Participates in field checks and pre-construction meetings and activities related to water supply capital and maintenance projects.
- Complies with all safety standards and practices as they pertain to equipment, facility operations and chemical handling
- May require after hour work due to 24 hour operation.
- Available for emergency response, 24 hours/day, seven days/week.
- Must reside within 25 miles of the nearest water system boundary where assigned in order to respond to emergencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid California Driver’s license.
- Skilled with PC applications such as Windows, Word Processing and Spreadsheets.
- Have good communication (both written and verbal) and organizational skills.
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include standing for extended periods of time, lifting heavy loads, kneeling, crawling, and climbing
Technical Skills and Experience
- Three years as a Water Supply Operator II or five years of water supply experience in the water utility industry
- SWRCB Grade 2 Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate (or applicable SWRCB certification if designated as shift operator).
- SWRCB Grade 2 Water Distribution Operator Certificate
- Excellent math skills
- Experienced with the use of SCADA systems.
- Significant knowledge of hydraulics, chemistry and biology

COMPENSATION INFORMATION
The compensation range provided is in compliance with state specific laws. Multiple factors are used to determine the actual starting rate of pay for all of our positions, including specific skills, years of experience, education, certification(s), and other job related factors.
