Water Ski Instructor - Fair Hills Resort
Detroit Lakes, MN 56501
About the Job
Fair Hills Resort offers free water ski lessons to our guests. This team is responsible for teaching basic instructions to guests about water skiing and wakeboarding, and should have previous experience instructing, driving boats, and pulling skiers. These instructions should include how to put on the skis or wakeboard, how to position yourself before the boat starts moving, how to get yourself up when the boat begins to pull you, how to balance your body once you are up, and the basics for moving left and right once you are up and balanced. They should also instruct the various hand signals needed if the participant would like the boat to move faster, slower, or if they would like to quit. The instruction team is responsible for all of the equipment on the boat. This means that the instructors should arrive early enough to check the boat and set it up for the day. Checking the boat means to make sure that the blower is on, check the oil daily (do not let the oil get too high or too low and report to maintenance if oil is needed), run the bilge pump before starting in case any water has gotten in, and check the gas. It is the team’s responsibility to make sure that the boat is filled up with gas at the end of every day and record that in the fuel log. The instructors should check all skiing equipment before it is used to make sure it is still in good condition. This includes checking all skis and all ropes. Be sure to report any damaged or broken ski equipment to management so that it can be repaired. Once a week, the boats must be cleaned, vacuumed and waxed, in order to keep the boats in the best shape possible. Lastly, but most importantly, safety is our biggest concern at Fair Hills Resort. In order to keep everyone safe, we require that the boat stays clutter free (do not keep a bunch of skis inside of the boat), we only allow the skier and the two instructors in the boat at one time (no additional friends or family inside of the boat), and everybody must take their shoes off before climbing into the boat in order to prevent sand from getting everywhere. The instructor is scheduled to work from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday-Friday, with a lunch break in the middle. If the 4th of July falls on a weekday, there are no scheduled lessons. Private lessons are available for you to book with guests on your own time for extra hours.
