AECOM is actively seeking a Water Resources Engineering Intern in our Germantown, MD office. Our business focuses primarily on providing professional and technical services in engineering design, code consultation, and construction phase services for a wide variety of clients both in the private and public sectors.  We execute large and complex engineering projects and provide a comprehensive range of professional planning and design, systems engineering and technical assistance, program and construction management, and operations and maintenance services. 

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
• Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
• Assist in the development and application of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and analyses related to floodplain management studies and a variety of water resource projects.
• Prepare engineering-related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids.
• Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
• Water distribution system hydraulic modeling, analysis, and design.
• Sewer collection system evaluation and design.
• Stormwater modeling, analysis, and design.

Minimum Requirements:

• Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or in another related field and must have completed at least one year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.  

Preferred Qualifications:

• GIS and CAD skills.
• Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing, and standard office software.
• Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, and Hydrologic/Hydraulic models).
• Ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment and demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn.
• Detail oriented while still able to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project.
