The City of Oxnard’s Wastewater Division is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Electrician to join the team. The position works closely with the Wastewater Operations and Collections groups. Under the direction of the Wastewater Electrical Supervisor and Senior Wastewater Plant Electrician, the qualified candidate must possess knowledge of industrial/commercial electrical circuitry and control systems, be able to read and follow schematics, comprehend wiring diagrams and prints and be knowledgeable of all related federal, state and local electrical codes. Specifically, candidate must be knowledgeable in NEC code requirements and safety standards.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Wastewater lift station maintenance
- Preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical systems
- Perform scheduled and routine inspections, testing, cleaning, repairs, overhauls, modification, installation and replacement of defective electrical systems
- Understand and apply electrical plans, specifications and technical electrical diagrams.
- Install and repair electrical equipment and fixtures.
- Use testing devices to identify and report electrical problems.
- Install and troubleshoot motors and motor control systems.
- Install conduit and pull wire.
- Install VFD's, transfer switches and switch gears.
- Works with voltage from 120 v to 480 v AC; voltages above 480 v maintained by others.
- Identify electrical hazards and make proper repairs.
- Prepare and modify digital documentation.
- Assist in maintaining electrical equipment inventory
- Assist mechanics in the repairs of air blowers, compressors, pumps and other wastewater equipment.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with the operations group.
- Use asset management software.
- Participate in planning, design and construction of Capital Improvement Projects.
Plant Electrician
SUPERVISION EXERCISED/ SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This is a stand-alone classification in the Trades job family.
WORK SCHEDULE: The normal work week is Monday through Thursday 6:00 am to 4:30 pm. Depending on the work assignment staff may be assigned to a shift that is outside the standard work hours. In addition, this position may be required to be available to work additional hours including weekends and holidays in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs. Will also be required to perform standby duty on a rotating basis. This position is governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay.
