Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Vice President of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) to lead and inspire our Division EHS initiatives. This role requires a proven leader with exceptional strategic vision, people leadership skills and the ability to drive organizational change. While a deep understanding of EHS is valuable, we are prioritizing candidates with a strong record of accomplishment in leadership, collaboration and fostering a culture of excellence and accountability. This position reports to the Northeast Division President.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
* Act as a partner with the Division and OpCo Leadership teams
* Ability to communicate and establish strong working relationships with all levels of leadership (front line leaders to senior management).
* Will represent the CRH American Materials Northeast Division EHS on national and global teams.
* Executive level administration and maintenance of EHS programs; ensuring new developments in technology are available and continually evaluated.
* Ensure proper incident analysis and learning processes are in place, and that they are effective toward the achievement of a ZERO Harm learning culture.
* Ensure effective and efficient processes are in place for the organization and maintenance of both passive and active support files/records for all incidents/injuries, including general liability, auto liability, workers compensation, and all other applicable claims.
* Executive level leadership and administration of proper risk management processes, including negotiation/settlement of claims within proscribed limits of liability and directing other claims and lawsuits as appropriate.
* Act as Liaison with all affiliated agencies, including Insurance companies, MSHA, OSHA, EPA and Labor Commissions.
* Oversee EHS audit process; collaborate with region safety professionals and region presidents for selection/installment of safety devices/practices.
* Facilitate leadership meetings to drive cultural improvements foundational to an operational and employee owned ZERO Harm Learning Culture.
* Coach and guide business leaders in conducting their own training programs. Collecting and making available EHS material to business leaders for training needs.
* Steward/Implement Safety Leadership and Human Performance philosophies, education, and growth strategies.
* Provide direction/technical support to ensure employees health is protected and we are minimizing potential employee exposures through established industrial hygiene practices. Including Respiratory Protection Program, Hearing Conservation Program, Silica Awareness Program, etc.
* Oversight of Care Management processes; ensuring injured employees are provided with the best available treatment to ensure injury resolution and prevention.
* Implement strategic plans to ensure continued success in meeting company business objectives within Safety/Health, Safety Leadership, Human Performance, Risk Management, Environmental sustainability, and Leadership education.
* Monitor company safety results and trends, compile reports and share trends and corrective direction.
* Develop creative communication methods to ensure the distribution and institutionalization of best practices through tools.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education/Experience
* Bachelor's Degree and demonstrated effective leadership experience, of others or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
* Strong general leadership skills
* Ability to read and comprehend complex written and verbal instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write complex correspondence. Ability to carefully articulate and clearly communicate both specific technical information and creatively compose development trategies. Ability to effectively participate in and speak to large groups. Advanced presentation skills required.
* Detailed working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to effectively navigate and research regulatory agency and industry related web content.
Competencies
* Effective communication, leadership skills, strategic mindset, ability to drive vision, creative writing, clear and analytical thinking, creative presentation abilities, speaking clearly and effectively in front of large and small groups, and organization abilities.
