Position Summary
Directs and manages claims office operations, claims office operational effectiveness, including talent management, and Policyholder relationship management.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manages overall operations of designated area of authority. Interviews, hires, trains and directs personnel. Prepares and conducts performance assessments, coordinates discipline and oversees Employee development as required.
Manages overall operations of the claims office function. Supervises claims supervisory team and serves as a liaison between the home office and claims field office. Analyzes and evaluates claims office operating efficiency, staffing and activities and makes modifications to ensure optimum performance. Oversees Employee development and training and handles disciplinary action as required.
Manages the annual budget process for assigned areas. Directs cost control activities. Reviews claims and expense accounts to ensure that they conform to company guidelines.
Directs the handling of Policyholder, Agent and claimant complaints and inquiries. Counsels Agents on policy interpretation, procedures and related matters. Maintains appropriate communications with various field office and home office personnel and Agents.
Oversees claims customer relations and problem resolutions. Ensures that each functional area is efficiently organized and staff is adequately trained, directed and supervised. Handles claims complaints and inquiries from the various state insurance departments. Attends hearings as required.
Assists in implementing long- and short-term objectives for field claims operations to meet overall corporate goals. Coordinates planning efforts and partners with home office management and field sales management to assure that branch and region objectives are achieved. Ensures that approved policies, plans and objectives are clearly understood and effectively applied throughout the field office claims operations.
Provides input to and supports partnerships among the Director, Regional Vice Presidents, Branch Managers and underwriting staff.
Maintains and applies a current knowledge of trends and latest developments in the industry. Implements changes and plans within authority. Represents the company within the industry, community and among Agents. Promotes the company's goodwill and interests.
Completes special projects as required.

Qualifications
Minimum education and experience requirements:
Bachelor's degree and eight years claim handling, or related experience required; or
Associates degree and ten years claim handling, or related experience required; or
High school diploma, or GED, and twelve years claims handling, or related experience required
Management experience required. Completion of Associate in Claims (AIC) designation or CPCU designation strongly preferred. Willingness to obtain and maintain any required licenses.
Incumbents are placed into this role with Senior Leadership approval.
