About the Vice President of Events
This role will report to the CEO and is responsible for overseeing the planning and execution of the Foundation’s events.
The Vice President of Events should demonstrate expertise in event management, encompassing all aspects from initial concept to flawless execution while maintaining a high degree of organizational precision and attention to detail. The nature of this role requires an individual who is highly adaptable, hasstrong interpersonal and communication skills, and thrives in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
While our culture is highly collaborative, candidates must also demonstrate the capability to independently manage substantial aspects of their event portfolio, seeing projects through from inception to completion.
The position is based in Oakland, offering a flexible, hybrid work environment where employees typically aren't required to be in the office more than once a week.

About the Vice President of Events

Key Responsibilities
- Formulate event strategies and spearhead the planning and execution of both large-scale and smaller events throughout the year.
- Collaborate across all departments to strategically identify opportunities for enhancing and optimizing events and programs.
- Develop and oversee events from the ground up, including event planning, site Oversee every aspect of event development, including planning, site selection, layout design, scheduling, logistics, production elements, staffing, budgeting (including seven-figure budgets), and performance measurement.
- Collaborate with external event production teams when necessary, setting project timelines and serving as the lead project manager.
- Cultivate partnerships with non-profits (Alameda County Community Food Bank, Kaboom!, etc.) and corporate entities, including C-level corporate executives.
- Lead and manage program and event team members.
- Establish and manage external vendor partnerships, which include vetting, negotiation, contract management, budgeting, planning, implementation, and measurement.
- Collaborate with the finance and operations team to manage event budgets and contracts.
- Coordinate with the Volunteer Manager to ensure we have sufficient volunteers for event support and onsite management.
- Collaborate with program, finance, development, and communications teams to support key outcomes for community partners, funders, and impactful stories associated with events.
- Partner with the COO to advance department goals, key priorities, and operational needs.
Desired Qualifications & Core Competencies
- Minimum of 7 years of successful event management experience.
- Proven track record of leading events with 500 attendees for at least 3-4 years.
- Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including effective engagement with senior leadership, community partners, corporate partners, and colleagues.
- Strong managerial skills with a demonstrated aptitude for cross-functional collaboration and project manage key priorities.
- Exceptional judgment and creative problem-solving capabilities, enabling confident decision-making in evolving environments and anticipation of future needs.
- The ability to multitask and thrive in a collaborative, dynamic, fast-paced work environment where priorities often evolve to adapt to the organization’s needs and emerging opportunities.
- An entrepreneurial work ethic paired with a 'no problem too big, no question too small' mindset.
- Unwavering commitment to ethical standards, confidentiality, and personal integrity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
