The University of California| Agriculture and Natural Resources has an opportunity for a part-time Volunteer Services Coordinator for the Master Food Preserver program, located in Riverside, CA. The Volunteer Services Coordinator will oversee Master Food Preserver program and Volunteer training program. The incumbent will act as a liaison between the department and a wide variety of community groups. Additionally, the Volunteer Services Coordinator will recruit, place, orient, and evaluates volunteers to supplement regular staff functions an perform other related duties as required.
The Volunteer Services Coordinator is the advanced journey level classification and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position. Incumbents are responsible for organizing and coordinating volunteer services for a geographical or a major functional area within a department, and do not usually have any supervisory responsibilities. The Volunteer Services Coordinator typically assists a higher-level position in the planning, development and evaluation of a department-wide volunteer services program which may include a public relations program. Utilizing meetings with line supervisors to determine service needs and types of volunteer services to be performed, incumbents are expected to assist paid staff in delivering services more effectively and efficiently through the involvement of volunteers.
The Volunteer Services Coordinator is distinguished from the higher-level Volunteer Services Program Manager by the latter's responsibility for department-wide administration and supervision of volunteer activities.

This is not a full-time position.This position is part-timewith a flexible schedule. However, please note the incumbent must be able to work events and activities on evenings and weekends as required by the position.

The Master Food Preserver program of Riverside County is a part of the University of California Division of Agricul ture and Natural Resources (UC ANR).
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Oversee all Master Food Preserver committees including: recruitment, selection, and training of new trainees; make sure Master Food Preserver projects are within scope of program and resources; and review all publicity associated with Master Food Preserver events and activities.
• Oversee the monthly publication of the program newsletters and provide local media with written educational materials, as requested.
• Communicate with Master Food Preserver organization officers regularly regarding financial, program, and procedural matters.
• Maintain records of all Master Food Preserver's volunteer hours, continuing education hours and project activities. Maintain data in the Volunteer Management System website and provide statistics to the Community Education Supervisor and County Director, as requested.
• Ensure compliance with UC Master Food Preserver Administrative Handbook recommendations and UC Master Food Preserver Program Guidelines.
• Outline and oversee the training program, including finding UCCE and other presenters and providing guidance over classes offered. Under guidance of the Community Education Supervisor and County Director, plan and develop classes/programs.
• Recruit and screen instructors and speakers for classes, seminars and programs.
• Maintain liaison with the community Master Food Preserver groups to determine need and effectiveness of classes and programs.
• Network and build partnerships with other organizations working and collaborating in food safety and food preservation through the Master Food Preserver committees.
• Provide Master Food Preserver Help Line training and supervise the Help Line activity, including reviewing Help Line log and email for accuracy of information, completeness of documentation and identifying subjects for further training.
• Provide training to volunteers in the use of the Volunteer Management System website.
• Act as a resource for internal and external questions about the Master Food Preserver Program.
• Work with the Master Food Preserver Statewide Coordinator and keep the Master Food Preservers informed of the latest research. Maintain awareness of activities at the state level.
• Maintain of the Master Food Preserver website maintenance
• Evaluate program efficacy and outreach.
• Submit reports on accomplishments of the food preservation program with an evaluation of its effectiveness and impact. Provide the Community Education Supervisor and County Director with timely county and university reports, as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Four years in a community or volunteer organization. (Completion of undergraduate level courses from an accredited college or university, preferably with a major in one of the nutrition, food systems and sustainable agriculture , environmental science, community relations, or a closely related field to the assignment, may substitute for the required experience on the basis of 30 semester or 45 quarter units equaling one year of the required full-time experience.)
License Requirement: Possession of a California Driver's License C is required.
Physical Requirements: Lift 25 pounds or more, standing, walking, moving around, setting up/tear down events, transporting equipment.
Competitive candidates will have previous experience developing, creating and implementing programs, designing promotional/marketing materials, supervising volunteer staff and organizing events. Candidates who possess this experience should ensure it is clearly reflected on their application/resume.
Knowledge of: The functional responsibilities of a volunteer program including principles of volunteer services and general management and an understanding of the role of volunteers in relation to paid staff; community, civic, academic, and social organizations, and other sources of volunteer help; principles and practices of personnel management and supervision; media resources available for publicity campaigns and how to effectively use them; general principles of training.
Ability to: Organize and evaluate a volunteer program; interview, select and place volunteers according to program needs, previous experience, interest, skills, and time availability to provide useful services; schedule, train and evaluate other personnel; effectively communicate both orally and in writing to individuals and groups; establish rapport with and maintain cooperative, productive working relationships with staff, volunteers, groups, and the media; establish and maintain necessary records and controls, prepare reports and correspondence; design creative formats for exhibits, publicity brochures and promotional materials; generate and sustain the interest of the community in volunteerism.

MISCELLANEOUS RETIREMENT: County of Riverside has three retirement Tiers through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS).
- Tier I (Classic Member - Formula 3% @ 60): Applicable to current and former County of Riverside local miscellaneous employees hired prior to 08/24/2012 and did not withdraw CalPERS contributions. The employee contribution is eight (8%) percent.
- Tier II (Classic Member - Formula 2% @ 60): Applicable to local miscellaneous employees 1) hired after 08/23/2012 through 12/31/2012; 2) Previously employed with another CalPERS contracting public agency or a reciprocal retirement system, with a break in service of less than six months between the separation date with the previous employer and the appointment date with the County of Riverside. The employee contribution is seven (7%) percent.
- Tier III (PEPRA New Member - Formula 2% @ 62): Applicable to CalPERS local miscellaneous new members hired on or after the implementation of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) which took effect January 1, 2013. As of July 1, 2020, the employee contribution is 7.25% and subject to change annually.
A new member is defined as any of the following:
CalPERS refers to all members that do not fit within the definition of a new member as "classic members".
Contribution rates are subject to change based on the County of Riverside annual actuarial valuation.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual):
0< 3 year = 80 Hours (10 Days)
4< 9 years = 120 Hours (15 Days)
10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance).
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY: Short-term Disability benefit pays up to a maximum of $461.54 weekly, payable up to a maximum of 52 weeks.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable SEIU Memorandum of Understanding.
