Volunteer/Outreach Shelter Service Representative - Animal Care & Control - Office of the City Administrator (TEX 1434) - City and County of San Francisco

The San Francisco Department of Animal Care & Control (SFACC) is a taxpayer-funded, open-admission animal shelter. Since 1989, SFACC has provided housing, care, and medical treatment to wild, exotic and domestic stray, lost, abandoned, sick, injured, and surrendered animals. SFACC’s doors are open to all animals in need regardless of species, medical, or behavioral condition.

The shelter also enforces all state and local Animal Control and Welfare laws and is the first responder for animals in natural disasters and citizen emergencies.

• SFACC shelters homeless, neglected, and abused animals and provide humane education and many other services to the community.
• SFACC is the local agency that investigates animal cruelty, enforces animal welfare laws, rescues injured and orphaned wildlife and birds, and aids domestic animals in distress.
• SFACC aims to adopt, re-home, or reunite domestic animals with their guardians and to release wildlife to their native habitat.

Under direct supervision from the Volunteer / Outreach Coordinator, the Volunteer / Outreach Shelter Service Representative performs the following essential functions; 

• Provides routine support for the SFACC volunteers, including answering questions, assisting volunteers with materials, supplies or information they need to perform their duties, providing guidance, and data entry.
• Uses software to manage the volunteer program, social media platforms and SFACC website. Software used includes Chameleon, Volgistics, Photoshop, and Elementor.
• Conducts orientations and classes for new volunteers and presentations for visiting companies and organizations. 
• Organizes and implements events, tours, and meetings. Ability to plan and run off-site outreach events in the community.
• Familiarity with electronic media and social media platforms. Provides content when needed under the supervision of the Volunteer/Outreach Coordinator.
• Communicates orally and via email with volunteers, SFACC staff, and the public. 
• Works with other SFACC staff to coordinate volunteer training and troubleshoot issues specific to volunteers.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS INCLUDE:

• Work with people from diverse backgrounds, including individuals who may be emotional, angry or hostile.
• A fast-paced atmosphere that requires shifts in priorities at a moment’s notice.
• A very busy office and working environment with frequent interruptions.
• Being prepared to work a flexible schedule, which includes weekends and evenings

1. Six months experience providing customer services and information in an animal care and control operation or a related animal welfare/protection facility; OR
2. Two years of experience as a customer service representative in an office or facility with heavy face-to-face public contact.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION

Possession and maintenance of, or the ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C Driver's License.
