Job Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting in the development of a job bank for placement of Assertive Community Treatment patients by obtaining job orders, maintaining a roster of job orders for use in the placement of patients, establishing contacts either directly with private and public employers or through employment agencies, and monitoring available vacancies. The Vocational Specialist will be an integral part of the multidisciplinary team in promoting vocational services and supports for ACT patients.
Responsibilities:
- Formulates treatment plans for assigned caseload, prepare vocational assessments for all ACT patients, and write progress notes based on regular individual and/or group counseling sessions.
- Assists treatment team in the delivery of recovery-oriented rehabilitative services through the evaluation, processing and facilitation of vocational goals for patients.
- Works with patients to assess their interests/skills for employment.
- Prepares profile descriptions for all patients requesting job placement services.
- Refers patients to appropriate jobs, vocational training, education or volunteer work.
- Screens newspaper classified advertisements for available positions and calls companies to get job order information.
- Contacts new or potential employers in Westchester area to ascertain employment needs for particular jobs.
- Maintains database of available positions and employers for use in the placement of patients.
- Conducts follow-up interviews to determine suitability of placements and the extent of vocational adjustments.
- Provide clinical support and backup to other clinical staff as needed.
- Provide on-call emergency consultation coverage as needed.
- May perform other incidental tasks, as needed.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience:
- One year of experience that entailed personnel interviewing, employment counseling, recruitment, placement, job development, and/or human resources planning or training.
- Knowledge of employment practices and vocational rehabilitation.
- Familiarity with employers and the job market available in Westchester and surrounding counties.
- Ability to deal with others effectively, in person and over the telephone.
- Ability to maintain organized records and files.
- Ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments
Education:
- Possession of an Associates or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a vocational or pertinent field.
