SCOPE OF WORK:
The Virtual Design Project Manager is crucial for the successful completion of construction projects. This role involves providing detailed coordination and installation designs for electrical systems using a Coordination Virtual Design Platform, under the guidance of an Engineering Manager. With minimal supervision, the manager collaborates regularly with the project team and customers to offer innovative, cost-effective solutions while adhering to Gaylor Electric’s best practices. The position supports various nationwide electrical projects, ranging from $1 million to $400 million, including Mission Critical, Warehouse Distribution, Manufacturing, Healthcare, Multifamily, Hospitality, Student Housing, and Assisted Living projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead role in preconstruction design and coordination phases; may manage other team members.
- Represent Gaylor Electric in BIM coordination with architects, engineers, and MEP partners.
- Regional project support contact for operations and field staff.
- Maintain knowledge of relevant codes and standards; ensure compliance with best practices.
- Perform and review load, voltage drop, short circuit, and lighting calculations.
- Coordinate with the project team on design decisions and installation strategies.
- Ensure project plans, schedules, and budgets are accurately developed and maintained.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, and project personnel; attend project meetings.
- Review legal contracts, BIM Execution Plans, scopes of work, specifications, and codes.
- Develop engineering, coordination, and installation drawings per best practices.
- Provide coordination and design documents for various electrical systems.
- Ensure production quality, compliance, and timely deliverables.
- Excellent communication skills; capable of mentoring and training others.
- Establish new best practices and innovate to produce quality drawings efficiently.
- Working knowledge of APL point software or similar platforms.
- Working knowledge of various electrical systems (Power, Lighting, Access Control, Security, Fire Alarm, etc.).
- 10+ years of relevant electrical experience preferred.
- Experience as an MEP coordinator or superintendent with an Electrical Contractor is preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of the NEC; familiarity with IBC, IECC, and life safety codes.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- 2-4 years of Engineering and VDC experience.
- Holding a current Journeyman’s license in the relevant region is preferred.

- Proficiency with Engineering and Virtual Design software (e.g., Autodesk Construction Cloud, Collaborate Pro, Autodesk Build, Autodesk Docs, Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360).
- Ability to travel when needed.
Education Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Graduate of Construction Management or Construction Technology program (a plus)
- Revit Certification or 5+ years of relevant professional experience
Promotion Criteria to VDC PX I:
- Completion of 4-8 Engineering and VDC projects through construction with a positive evaluation
- Recommendation from Engineering Manager(s) and Vice President of Engineering
- Recommendation from an independent panel, SVP Engineering, Chief of Staff, and Ops RVP
