Description
The
Vice President of Regulatory Affairs
is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing regulatory compliance and ensuring that all healthcare operations adhere to the highest standards of regulatory, accreditation, and quality assurance. This individual will provide executive oversight for regulatory and accreditation programs, working with clinical and administrative leaders to maintain a strong culture of safety. This role requires a highly skilled leader with extensive knowledge of healthcare regulations and a commitment to continuous quality improvement across all Emory Healthcare facilities. Reporting to the Chief Quality Officer, Emory Healthcare.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Regulatory Compliance and Accreditation Oversight: + Lead system-wide strategies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including CMS, The Joint Commission, OSHA, and other accrediting bodies + Oversee all regulatory and accreditation activities, including preparation for inspections, audits, and surveys, and ensure that corrective actions are implemented and sustained + Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, maintaining positive relationships and advocating for Emory Healthcares practices, policies, and standards 2. Policy and Program Development: + Develop, implement, and enforce policies, procedures, and programs that support regulatory compliance and quality standards across Emory Healthcare + Work with senior leaders to establish and maintain a proactive approach to compliance, ensuring that all departments are well-prepared to meet regulatory and accreditation requirements + Lead cross-functional teams to develop and sustain a culture of continuous compliance, integrating regulatory requirements into daily operations and quality initiatives 3. Strategic Leadership in Quality and Safety: + Collaborate with the Office of Quality and other leadership teams to drive regulatory strategy, setting the vision and direction for regulatory compliance as a cornerstone of patient safety and quality improvement + Utilize data and analytics to monitor compliance performance, identify trends, and proactively address areas for improvement + Guide EHC response to changes in regulatory standards, ensuring readiness and adaptability to new regulations or requirements 4. Education and Training: + Develop and lead training programs to educate staff and leaders on regulatory standards, emphasizing the importance of compliance in achieving high-quality care + Ensure that the entire healthcare system, from senior executives to frontline staff, is informed about regulatory policies and has the resources needed to comply with them + Conduct periodic compliance assessments and provide feedback to departments, reinforcing a culture of accountability and continuous improvement 5. Performance Measurement and Reporting: + Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to regulatory compliance and quality standards, providing regular reports to executive leadership and the Board of Directors + Oversee the implementation of compliance and quality assurance dashboards, enabling real-time monitoring and data-driven decision-making + Ensure that all compliance-related documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and readily available for regulatory review 6. Crisis and Incident Management: + Lead EHC regulatory response during crises, including public health emergencies, patient safety events, and other incidents that require regulatory reporting and documentation + Serve as essential function subject matter expert lead in incident command during emergency response or patient safety events + Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of incidents to regulatory bodies as required + Develop and implement corrective action plans, ensuring that issues are resolved and that lessons learned are applied across the organization
Qualifications:
+ Masters degree in public health, healthcare administration, business, or a related field required + Minimum of 10 years of experience in regulatory affairs, healthcare quality, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a large complex matrixed healthcare organization + Previous clinical experience highly preferred
Knowledge & Skills:
+ Extensive knowledge of healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices, including CMS, The Joint Commission, OSHA, and other relevant entities + Strong analytical skills, with experience in data-driven decision-making and the use of metrics to measure compliance and quality performance + Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams, with a focus on fostering a culture of accountability and excellence + Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with senior leaders, regulatory agencies, and clinical staff + Strong project management skills, with experience managing multiple complex regulatory projects and initiatives
