Job Summary and Qualifications
The VP of Surgical Services acts as the facility lead for strategic growth in surgical services; working in collaboration with the Central West Texas Division recruiters and facility leadership. Accountable for the effective, efficient, and compliant operation of surgical services at NAMC and SDSH. Responsible for planning, directing, monitoring, coordinating, evaluating and continually improving the operation of surgical services, to include OR, pre/post, endoscopy, sterile processing, business office, scheduling, and analysts. Establish and maintain medical staff relationships; identify new business opportunities and focus on implementation of the strategic plan related to growth.
What you will do in this role:
- Develop and implement surgical services growth strategies
- Manage all operational projects related to scope
- Manage all day-to-day operations of the service including managing direct reports, expense analysis and identifying ways to increase profitability and decrease costs
- Develop and implement process improvement efforts to improve the overall function and efficiency of the service
- Manages variation in clinical practice to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and cost
- Ensures a culture of accountability and transparency in the provision of care.
- Effectively communicate with team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
- Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel
- Identify and resolve issues and conflicts in a timely manner
- Plan and schedule project timeliness and milestones appropriately
- Develop and communicate progress
- Facilitate presentations as required
- Perform all other duties as assigned
What qualifications you will need:
- Bachelor's degree required
- RN or CST experience required
- Master's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or a related field preferred
- 3+ years of experience in surgical services required
- 3+ years of experience in a leadership role preferred or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse or certified surgical technologist in the state in which he or she practices, in accordance with law and regulation required
- Certified Nursing Operating Room (CNOR) preferred
- Certified Surgical Services Manager (CSSM) preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have in-depth knowledge of surgical services operations and work flows. Must fully understand the role of clinical operations and successful execution of quality, patient service, affordability and revenue cycle improvement initiatives. Must be skilled in the development and implementation of performance accountability systems and processes. The ability to communicate clearly to all levels in the organization is required, as is the ability to research and prepare comprehensive reports and proposals.
Strong organizational skills with ability to achieve goals and objectives. Skills in exercising judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, peers, and physicians. Strong analytical ability required and flexibility in prioritizing work based on changing needs. Ability to lead culture change, creating a patient-centered culture of innovation, employee-empowerment, and continuous improvement.
Leads the development and implementation of patient throughput strategies, including capacity planning, volume forecasting, patient flow coordination, and admission/discharge planning. Ensures effective labor management, including position control, scheduling excellence, productivity management, and premium pay utilization. Maintains staffing to ensure appropriate patient care.
Provides leadership in attaining and sustaining an unparalleled patient experience. Instills accountability for providing consistent, positive patient and physician interactions that differentiate the organization as a healthcare leader. Builds a competitively superior organization through attracting, developing, engaging, and retaining talent. Ensures people with the right skills and motivations are in the right role, at the right time, to meet business needs.
St. David’s North Austin Medical Center is a multi-specialty hospital in Texas withmore than 360 beds. The facility is home to St. David’s Children’s Hospital, St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas featuring a Level III NICU, a Kidney Transplant Center, and the Texas Institute for Robotic Surgery.
