This OpportunityWSP seeks to hire a Vice President to be leader in WSP’s Civil and Ground Engineering Services, with a focus on the Solid Waste & Materials Recovery Sectors. The position can be based in any of the large metropolitan areas in California and will be a part our Earth & Environment Business-Line.
The candidate will play a key leadership role in California as we continue to strengthen and expand our Civil, Ground Engineering and related environmental Services. In this role, you will be a leader who leverages cross collaboration with other WSP business-lines such as Transport and Infrastructure (T&I), Property and Buildings (P&B), Energy, Water, Federal, Advisory Services, and Project Management and Construction Management (PMCM) to bring value to our clients.

Ensure that engineering discipline certifications, accreditations, and value proposition is developed and continuously improved.Serve as the engineering and environmental disciplines lead representatives/liaisons to a variety of external entities including Federal, State, and Local Agencies, Clients, Subcontractors, industry-related groups, and various government and community entities.Develop and inform proposal and project scopes, timelines, pricing, and budgetary metrics – and accountable for planning, development and management of projects in compliance with all applicable City/State/Federal codes and regulations, and in accordance with all acceptable engineering practices.Interpret and summarize data, including reports and documents that result in sound engineering and regulatory conclusions.Who You AreRequired QualificationsMinimum Bachelors of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related degree 12+ years of experience in the practice of environmental sciences and civil engineeringSignificant experience in the following areas of practice: construction quality assurance for solid waste and environmental containment systems, preparing permitting documents for solid waste and materials recycling facilities, landfill gas compliance and management, hazardous waste management, air and groundwater and surface water regulatory permit complianceExperience in environmental due diligence, contaminated land site assessment and remediation experience, particularly relating to landfill and environmental containment facilitiesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint softwareAbility to work both independently and within groupsExcellent work history with leadership abilities and a positive attitudeCandidate must interact well with the public and clients and have excellent teamwork skillsAdvanced proficiency with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulationsWorks independently and provides guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QCExcellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organizationTactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environmentAbility to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, regulators, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exitsProven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policiesStrong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needsRoutine travel required as a function of project oversight and client and other stakeholder requirements, primarily in California but potentially throughout the U.S.Preferred Qualifications:Master’s Degree would be an assetValid PE registration or equivalent for related discipline, with a commitment to seek PE in CASpanish at professional level is beneficialBasic First Aid and Adult CPR training and other relevant industry safety training (OSHA Hazwoper, MSHA)WSP Benefits: WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits focused on a providing health and financial stability throughout the employee’s career.
