Job Description:
Emory’s Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences is seeking a visionary leader to be our next Vice Chair for Equity, Inclusion, and Outreach. The Vice Chair will serve on the department’s executive committee and will work to promote an inclusive and equitable culture and climate for the faculty, staff, and trainees in the department, health equity for the patients we serve, and outreach to the local and global community.
The Vice Chair for Equity, Inclusion, and Outreach will provide vision and leadership for the department’s journey of excellence toward a national model for advancing health equity, diversity, and an inclusive culture in the field of radiology. The Vice Chair will advise and work closely with the Chair to ensure implementation of best practices for promoting an inclusive and equitable culture and climate in the department, as experienced by faculty, staff, and trainees. The successful candidate will demonstrate integrity, strong leadership skills, emotional intelligence, empathy, and exercise cultural awareness.
The Vice Chair will be a member of the department’s Executive Committee, will lead/advise the department Equity, Inclusion, and Outreach Committee, and interface with Emory University School of Medicine’s (SOM) Diversity Council. The Vice Chair will advance a department strategic plan for Equity, Inclusion, and Outreach and develop, track, and communicate programmatic outcomes. They will work to identify sources of systematic bias, exclusion, and inequity in hiring, advancement, resources, and opportunity and will seek to remove such barriers, and collaborate with others to establish policies and procedures to address these barriers.
The faculty member serving as Vice Chair of Equity, Inclusion, and Outreach will be expected to dedicate 20% professional effort to the role.
Specific roles and responsibilities will include:
- Provide leadership, inspiration, and vision to advance Equity, Inclusion, and Outreach across the clinical, research, and teaching missions of the department, and promote equity in the healthcare delivered by the department.
- Engage in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and programs to promote Equity, Inclusion, and Outreach in collaboration with the Chair, Radiology Equity, Inclusion, and Outreach committee, and the SOM.
- Serve as a subject matter expert, advocate, and resource for the department.
- Promote awareness and action regarding bias, stereotyping, and microaggressions.
- Collaborate with the Communications and Creative Services Team to disseminate information on Equity, Inclusion, and Outreach activities and communications, such as through the Rad Report and social media.
- Promote the recognition and advancement of those typically under-represented in Medicine (URIM) and in Radiology.
- Use institutional and departmental data to measure and benchmark Equity, Inclusion, and Outreach metrics. Set goals and track progress to promote accountability.
- Lead collaboration to prepare an annual report on progress of Radiology Equity, Inclusion, and Outreach strategic initiatives.
- Provide opportunities, sponsorship, and support for professional development, growth, and empowerment at all levels (faculty, staff, trainees).
- Stay abreast of the best practices in Equity, Inclusion, and Outreach by attending institutional and national workshops and continuing education events.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must hold an MD or DO degree, be certified by the American Board of Radiology or American Board of Nuclear Medicine and be eligible to obtain an unrestricted Georgia medical license.
- Demonstrated leadership in equity, inclusion, diversity, and outreach.
- Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments, and candidates at the Associate Professor and Professor ranks are preferred.
