Calling all veterinary students! Are you looking for some epic summer plans and have at least 8 weeks to spend with an amazing veterinary hospital? Join us this summer as a Vet Student Summer Associate and continue your amazing growth within this profession.
Duties:
In this role, expect to perform work comparable to a veterinary assistant and also to be included in case discussions, participate or shadow in procedures or surgeries of interest, and work on your professional goals.
Your responsibility is to support the doctors and other team members in providing high quality medicine in a friendly and efficient manner that ensures excellent service to our clients and patients. You will report directly to the Hospital Manager (HM), with accountability to the Medical Director (MD). Your work will directly support the HM – MD partnership in support of hospital goals.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Foster an educational experience for the client
- Provide exemplary communication and customer service
- Conduct follow up correspondence
- Provide cleaning and maintenance for medical and office equipment
- Assist in outpatient exam flow, including patient restraint
- Provide appropriate skill level care and treatments for hospitalized patients
- Prepare testing for in-house or referral laboratory properly
- Restrain patients for digital radiographs
- Verify and fill patient prescriptions
- Ensure cleanliness of exam rooms, surgical areas, and treatment area
- Answer and direct multiple phone lines
- Respond to emails in a professional, timely manner
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Prepare and process scans and referral reports
- Learn, use, and improve estimates, fee schedule, and other operational documents
- Perform other duties as assigned
Candidate Requirements:
UVC’s Veterinary Student Summer Associate roles are available exclusively for current veterinary students at AVMA-accredited vet schools.
- Availability for at least 8 weeks over the summer to work within our hospital
- Excellent communication skills with clients and team members
- Proficient time management, ability to problem solve, learn, and handle multiple tasks
- Enthusiastic team player with a patient, positive, and professional attitude
- Must be able to move equipment and/or patients weighing up to 40 pounds
