Residency Program Highlights
- The residency program offers a well-rounded approach to teaching, mentorship, and skill development. Residents participate in weekly teaching rounds where they discuss cases with senior clinicians, and each resident is required to give a seminar to peers and supervisors, building presentation skills and sharing insights. They also complete a research project and submit a first-author manuscript, gaining valuable research experience.
- Residents in the program have substantial responsibilities that build their clinical and surgical skills. They serve as primary caregivers for emergency and critical care cases, managing cases directly and making critical decisions that impact patient outcomes. They also act as primary surgeons on a wide range of procedures, gaining hands-on surgical experience across diverse cases.
- Daily patient rounds are held with a boarded specialist present, allowing residents to discuss cases in detail, refine their decision-making, and learn from expert insights.
- Additionally, residents take on a teaching role, overseeing and guiding interns, which enhances their leadership and teaching skills. This structured responsibility fosters a well-rounded skill set and prepares residents for advanced roles in veterinary medicine.
