Fetch Specialty & Emergency Veterinary Centers is seeking a detail oriented and compassionate assistant to join our Medical Oncology Team!
The Medical Oncology Assistant coordinates with the rest of the Fetch medical oncology and specialty teams to ensure proper patient and client care. They work under the direct guidance and supervision of the Practice Manager and are critical to the success of Fetch and its team members.
Essential Functions
- Candidate must be detailed oriented and have the veterinary technician skills as listed below:
- Be knowledgeable about safety standards in all areas of the veterinary hospital
- Proper and safe animal restraint
- Weigh animals
- Perform TPR
- Input data into electronic medical record system
- Assist with chemotherapy administration
- Handle chemotherapy drugs using the proper PPE
- Remove sutures/staples/drains with assistance
- Perform nail trims, ear cleaning, and anal gland expression
- Remove bandages
- Prepare animals for discharge from the hospital
- Properly set up fluid bag for IV or SQ administration
- Administer oral medications, SQ fluids, and SQ injections as directed by technicians or doctor
- Assist with procedures and maintaining a timely start to oncology procedures
- Setting up for and cleaning up after procedures and maintaining equipment
- Be able to work with heating pads/blankets, scales, thermometers, otoscopes, clippers/blades, and perform daily maintenance on these items
- Properly use laboratory equipment including CBC machine, chemistry analyzer, coagulation analyzer, microscope, assays, etc.
- Properly handle all types of laboratory specimens and submit to appropriate laboratories
- Assist with radiograph positioning and processing including set up of equipment and input of patient information
- Submit radiographs/CT images for review or storage
- Assisting with restraint for ultrasound, input patient info, and transfer images to medical record system
- Accurately filling and dispensing medications and refills as directed by Fetch clinicians
- Alerting inventory manager when medications and supplies are low
- Cleaning, stocking and helping to maintain proper care of the hospital equipment
