About the Job
Our three-doctor, American Animal Hospital Association ("AAHA")-accredited, small animal practice located in Canton, Georgia is looking for a full-time veterinary clinicial supervisor to provide support to our team of veterinarians, veterinary technicians and assistants as well as to provide accountability for excellent patient care. You’ll play an important role in bringing comfort to our furry patients and peace of mind to the families who love them. A positive attitude, team-oriented work habits and a love for animals is essential. Licensed Veterinary Technician credentials are required. Responsibilities
- Master vaccine protocols and administration
- Perform both jugular and cephalic venipuncture to collect blood samples
- Administer medication as prescribed by Veterinarians
- Fill medications in the pharmacy as prescribed by Veterinarians
- Supervise the meticulous maintenance of medical records
- Keep accurate records and logs
- Effectively and thoroughly review treatment plans and discharge instructions with clients
- Prepare for surgery, provide pre-operative and post-operative care
- Perform dental prophylaxis
- Non-dental and dental radiographs
- Application and/or removal of casts, bandages and splints
- Read all in-house lab samples with accuracy
- Anesthetic induction, monitoring and recovery
- Assist in soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries
- Manage the scheduling of the patient care team
- Recruit and hire veterinary technicians and assistants
- Oversee and participate in the training, coaching, mentoring and performance evaluation for all patient care team members
- Supervise the maintenance of the patient care portion of the facility and the medical equipment
- Manage inventory, including controlled substances
- Develop and implement policies and protocols that affect patient care and enforce compliance
Skills
- At least five year's experience working as a veterinary technician, including at least 12 months experience monitoring anesthesia and working as a technician in the examination room
- Experience in customer service or client communication is a plus
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to work as part of a team, responding with grace in stressful situations
- Computer skills, previous experience with AviMark software preferred but not required
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical procedures and pharmacology
- Ability to follow instructions properly
- Physically and mentally able to work efficiently in a fast paced and challenging environment
- Must be able to restrain and lift pets of all sizes, and lift up to 50 pounds unassisted
- Flexible schedule, available for some weekend and holiday shifts
- Associate's degree and veterinary technician license required
