Key Responsibilities
Innovate Shelter Medicine Programs:
- Develop and implement medical protocols that serve thousands of animals annually.
- Collaborate with universities to advance practices in shelter medicine.
- Train and mentor staff to ensure high standards of care.
Perform Comprehensive Veterinary Services:
- Conduct a mix of high-volume spay/neuter surgeries and complex medical procedures.
- Deliver preventive care, diagnostic services, and emergency surgeries.
- Use analytical skills to diagnose and treat various animal health conditions.
Promote Animal Welfare:
- Support legal investigations in animal cruelty cases through forensic work.
- Provide expert testimony when necessary, directly impacting animal protection efforts.
Lead and Inspire Teams:
- Guide veterinary technicians and other shelter staff in maintaining a compassionate care culture.
- Optimize team workflows and ensure adherence to best practices.
Engage in Community Outreach:
- Participate in public health initiatives.
- Manage community clinic programs to expand veterinary services throughout Nashville-Davidson County.
- Build partnerships to increase access to care.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Certifications:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) from an accredited institution.
- Active Tennessee veterinary license.
- DEA-controlled substances registration for administration, prescription, and dispensing.
- Comfort and proficiency in performing animal surgeries.
