About the Job
We are currently seeking an VAR Engineering Associate for our Charlotte area office to assist project managers and engineers with forensic, consulting services requiring vehicle accident reconstruction (VAR) and mechanical engineering expertise for insurance, legal, industrial, and other clients. Will work under the guidance of a senior engineer to gather collision site information, perform vehicle inspections, analyze/reconstruct vehicle accidents, and review necessary documents to assess and determine the cause and origin of vehicle accidents and mechanical failures of consumer products. Strong vehicle background desired, such as mechanical repair and/or vehicle design background; willingness to learn about vehicle systems is a must.

Responsibilities:- Performs forensic assignments within the field of vehicle accident reconstruction or mechanical engineering expertise based upon a scope of work and budget prepared by the consultant and agreed upon by the client in advance of performing the work.
- Performs engineering analysis of acquired data.
- Prepares drawings and reports as needed for projects.
- Willingness to learn under experienced VAR/mechanical experts. Formal and informal training will be provided.
- Ability to initiate, develop and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships.
- 0-5 years’ experience.
- B.S. Mechanical Engineering degree or higher.
- E.I.T Certification preferred but not required. Willingness to obtain E.I.T. certification a must.
- FAA certified drone pilot is preferred but not required. Willingness to obtain certification is a must.
- Mechanical repair and/or vehicle design experience a plus.
- Must have a high level of analytical skills. Work requires continual attention to detail with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Must be outgoing and able to interact and communicate with clients and colleagues at all levels
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar CAD software is desired
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle ownership is a must.
- Must be able to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Must be able to travel throughout North and South Carolina on a regular basis, including overnight travel.
- Must possess an open attitude and willingness to learn and develop skills as a forensic engineer.
- Physical ability to perform all the following functions is required: Work in semi-confined spaces, such as underneath vehicles. Move furniture and other household/ commercial items. Work outdoors in hot or cold weather. Lift up to 50 pounds. Use necessary safety equipment.
- Perform duties that may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, or squatting for prolonged periods of time. This is a physical job, requiring the ability to move easily within unique spaces to complete inspections and possible collection of evidence.
