DESCRIPTION: Keville Enterprises, Inc., an established Construction Management Consulting and Inspection firm, has an immediate opening for a VDOT certified Construction Inspector to perform inspection services on a number of roadway asphalt paving and bridge projects in and around Fredericksburg, Virginia.
DUTIES: The duties and responsibilities of the Construction Inspector include the following:
Inspect work performed by construction contractors to ensure conformance with contract plans and specifications. Track and document work performed. Prepare Daily Reports electronically and submit daily. Participate in all required meetings and prepare meeting minutes. Report any non-complying work as well as individuals who fail to perform their work in a skillful, safe and workmanlike manner. Ensure that construction submittals are approved as required by the contract, prior to allowing material on site and work to proceed with these items. Perform customer outreach and communications/coordination with residents and/or businesses within the affected construction areas to ensure they are well informed of upcoming and on-going construction activities. Maintain as-built data info. Use as-built data to review the contractor's as-builts for accuracy. Perform Punch-out inspections, participate in Final inspections, submit lists of deficiencies, and ensure correction of all deficiencies prior to final inspection. Ensure that all required close-out items are correct, complete and in accordance with the contract prior to being submitted to the owner. Ensure that all applicable tests and observations required by the contract are performed and shall coordinate all on-site testing required by this contract.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: (1) The Construction Inspector must be a high school graduate or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years construction inspection experience. (2) Experience should include a minimum of 3 projects and/or contracts with bridges on roadways or highways. (3) Possess the ability to communicate both orally and in writing to report on progress and outcome of technical assignments and to present recommendations. (4) VDOT Certification in Asphalt Field, Pavement Marking, Work Zone Safety required. The ability to successfully pass and acquire the following certifications: VDOT Soils & Aggregate Field Compaction, VDOT/ACI Concrete Field Technician, and Erosion and Sediment Control. (5) Possess the ability to monitor construction projects to a successful and timely completion.
(6) Working Knowledge of roadway construction methods, materials, standards, construction symbols and terminology, mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
(7) Working skill in operating computer equipment, software programs and field inspection equipment.
(8) Ability to read and interpret roadway, structure and bridge plans and specifications.
(9) Apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine minor adjustments to construction plans.
(10) Maintain detailed records, perform required materials testing; and communicate effectively with agency and contractor personnel and the general public. (11) Have general knowledge of safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures, laws and regulations as they relate to engineering performance requirements.
