The island is accessible only by ferry, which operates regularly. All transportation on the island is via golf cart.
Utility Operator in Charge Job Description
Oversees all operations related to water and wastewater management. Responsibilities include ensuring a consistent supply of potable water, meeting quality standards for wastewater treatment, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Duties also involve managing chemical treatment, equipment functionality, regulatory records, coordinating with regulatory agencies, implementing preventative maintenance, overseeing solid waste and waste removal, and responding to equipment malfunctions and emergencies.
License/Certification:
- “B” level biological wastewater treatment plant operator
- “B” level water treatment plant operator
- “C” level water distribution system operator
Qualifications:
- Experience with water and sewer systems operations and maintenance.
- Knowledge of regulatory procedures and environmental guidelines.
- Strong management skills and ability to coordinate multiple projects.
- Ability to maintain records, report findings, and follow directions effectively.
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field and at least 7 years of related experience.
Required licenses:
- “B” level biological wastewater treatment plant operator
- “B” level water treatment plant operator
- “C” level water distribution system operator.
- Valid driver's license
