Responsibilities & Expectations:
The Utility Operator is responsible for preparing transformers for painting by sanding them with a dual action orbital sander. This position requires the use of a respirator and includes forklift operation training. The Utility Operator plays a crucial role in ensuring that all transformers are prepped and finished to quality standards.
- Sand transformers using a dual action orbital sander
- Wear and properly maintain safety equipment, including a respirator
- Operate a forklift as needed (training provided)
- Scrape old stickers off transformers to prepare for painting
- Tape off areas that do not require painting to ensure precision
- Apply body filler and rust prevention products to damaged or worn surfaces
- Perform stenciling on transformers as needed
- Place and install data tags and stickers
- Assist in the installation of 3-phase cabinets
- Replace transformer parts as necessary
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Previous experience in sanding or similar manual labor roles
- Familiarity with body fillers and rust prevention materials
- Experience with forklift operation
- Ability to wear a respirator during work hours
- Willingness to be trained in forklift operation
- Basic knowledge of hand tools and equipment, such as orbital sanders
- Attention to detail for prep work, such as taping and stenciling
- Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently or as part of a team
- Physical ability to handle tasks involving standing, bending, and lifting
- Previous experience in sanding or similar manual labor roles
- Familiarity with body fillers and rust prevention materials
- Experience with forklift operation
