Position Summary
Join our team as a Utility Locator, where you'll ensure the protection of vital City infrastructure. In this role, you'll receive and process utility locate requests, identify underground utilities using advanced tools and resources, and work to prevent damage during construction. This position involves both physical and mental effort and requires attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Normal Shift: Mon-Fri 7am-3:30pm
Key Responsibilities
- Process utility locate requests according to Missouri "One Call" requirements.
- Use the City Geographical Information System (GIS) to assess and determine the need for field locates.
- Identify and mark underground utilities, including water mains, sewer lines, fiber optic cables, traffic signals, and more, using utility maps and electronic locator equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to assist with locating utilities.
- Assist homeowners, builders, contractors, and other utilities with locating buried lines.
- Maintain accurate records of locate activities and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Respond to field requests, drive to sites, and independently handle locate tasks.
- Work collaboratively with other City departments to maintain and update utility information.
- Perform all duties while adhering to established City safety standards.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker.
- High School graduate or GED equivalent.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License valid in the state of Missouri.
- Read and interpret blueprints and/or other engineering drawings.
- Skilled in use of computer and GIS system.
- Ability to get in and out of vehicle 50 times a day; drive 30-60 miles daily; bend
- torso 120º; crouch, twist 45º to 90º from side to side.
- Ability to frequently lift heavy equipment and material.
- Ability to provide 24-hour on-call emergency locates as needed.
