JOB SUMMARY
Performs installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of water, wastewater and treatment plant systems and appurtenances as assigned. Responsible for fabrication, repair, and installation of equipment and appurtenances necessary for proper operation of all systems. Work is performed under general supervision and reviewed through proper functioning of equipment, systems, discussion, and report analysis.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Installs, maintains, and repairs water and sewer lines and related system components, including taps, valves, pumps, tanks, service lines, etc.
- Inspects and evaluates condition of systems; diagnoses and corrects leaks, blockages or other problems; clears debris from manholes, water and sewer lines, easements, valve boxes, etc.; performs confined space entries; cleans manholes and lines; and changes out sewer rings and lids, etc.
- Maintains lift stations; performs daily checks and preventative maintenance; monitors system operability and records, dials and charts; performs routine adjustments and repairs in response to monitoring results; and receives, responds to, and resolves complaints of odors and noise at lift stations.
- Gathers tools and equipment needed to complete work activities; picks up and transports materials, tools and supplies; cleans and washes equipment and tools; performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs on tools and equipment as needed; and notifies supervisor of needed equipment replacements and repairs.
- Performs related activities; repairs asphalt, concrete, yards, and other areas that are disrupted as a result of repair work.
- Locates manholes, service connections, valves, and other utilities utilizing global positioning system (GPS) and geographic information system (GIS) maps; and enters and updates department database with location details.
- Participates in emergency response and scheduled on call program.
- Performs related work as assigned and assists other departments and employees as required.
- Provides exceptional customer assistance, problem-solving, and/or complaint resolution by all forms of communication.
