JOB SUMMARY
Performs highly technical and skilled work in preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical, electronic, and pneumatic instrumentation and controls in wastewater and water treatment plants, and distribution and collection system facilities. Inspects, repairs, and calibrates instrumentation required for operating controls and monitoring systems of the wastewater and water treatment plants and pump stations. Installs and modifies electronic instruments and control systems, including computer control systems and interfaces.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Inspects, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs electrical, electronic, and pneumatic instrumentation, and control systems at wastewater and water treatment plants, water distribution systems, pumping stations, chlorine injection stations, and potable water interconnection stations; maintains flow monitoring and system monitoring equipment by inspection and calibration.
- Tests, calibrates, maintains, cleans, and installs instruments and related devices used in control systems and automated equipment for controlling and measuring flow, level, pressure, temperature, analytical instruments, etc.
- Inspects, tests, determines working conditions of, and repairs and/or replaces various types of electronic equipment and instruments; implements new instrumentation and additions and upgrades obsolete or failing instrumentation; conducts cost feasibility studies; and makes recommendations regarding benefits of new versus upgraded instrumentation.
- Assists mechanics in the installation, maintenance, repair, and testing of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, motors, generators, transformers, and other electrical equipment for wastewater and water plants, pumping stations, and other utilities installations.
- Maintains records relating to installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of instruments and control devices; prepares necessary records and reports; and prepares and interprets drawings, sketches, and schematics.
- Uses sound judgment to recognize and subsequently report unusual conditions; monitors systems; takes corrective action when necessary; and reports system errors and problems to superiors.
- Participates in special projects as assigned; designs, fabricates, programs, commissions, and documents complex, large-scale control system upgrades.
- Maintains cleanliness of work area.
- Participates in emergency response programs and scheduled on-call program.
- Provides exceptional customer assistance, problem-solving, and/or complaint resolution by all forms of communication.
