Utility Engineer/Coordinator EIT – Austin, TX

Position Summary:

Halff has an immediate opening for a Utility Engineer/Coordinator EIT in our North Austin office with opportunities for advancement. This position involves collaborating with project teams, utility companies, and regulatory agencies to ensure smooth and efficient utility installations, relocations, and upgrades. The Engineer/Utility Coordinator EIT will perform the planning, coordination, and execution of utility-related activities to mitigate potential conflicts, delays, and cost overruns.

Responsibilities:

• Develop understanding of utility systems, including electrical, water, sewer, gas, telecommunications, and other relevant infrastructure.
• Develop utility research methods, including utility mapping, GIS technologies, and document review.
• Demonstrate moderate knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to utility coordination and construction.
• Demonstrate excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and meet deadlines.
• Utilize effective communication and negotiation skills to facilitate collaboration among internal and external stakeholders.
• Exercise problem-solving aptitude to address unexpected utility conflicts and challenges.
• Provide attention to detail in reviewing utility plans and construction plans to identify potential issues.
• Employ leadership skills to guide junior team members and lead coordination efforts.
• Develop familiarity with relevant software and tools, such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, GIS software, and Microsoft Office suite.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering or a related field is a plus.
• Preferred 2+ years of experience in utility coordination, with a proven track record of successfully managing utility aspects of engineering projects.
• Preferred licensed Engineer In Training (EIT) in the State of Texas or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
• Demonstrated experience in utility research, coordination plan development, and utility design review.
• Understanding of project management methodologies and tools.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
• Must have good communication skills and be well organized.
• Pre-certified in TxDOT work categories 18.3.1 Utility Adjustment Coordination and 18.6.1 Utility Management & Coordination Oversight is a plus.
• Pre-certified in TxDOT work categories 18.2.1 Subsurface Utility Engineering and 18.4.1 Utility Engineering is a plus.
