Kent Phoenix Academy (KPA) is a designated Washington State Innovative School by the Superintendent of Public Instruction. It is a relevant and rigorous learning environment that partners students with adults and community, providing relationships and experiences that support individual student goals and inspire citizenship. Kent Phoenix Academy is based on research of the best educational practices in the nation and has implemented all the program components recommended for student success by the National Dropout Prevention Center.
Kent Phoenix Academy staff believes all students can thrive and excel in a learning environment where each student is known well, connections are made between learning and student goals, and students have a positive adult and community experience. Academy students learn in a high touch technology environment and gain important literacy, math, teamwork, leadership, and 21st century skills. All full-time students are given a skills assessment upon entrance and learning is tailored to their needs.
Students participate weekly in the Washington State approved advisory program aimed at achieving personal goals, building self-confidence, and completing the state required culminating project. There is a free on-site Teen Health Clinic. The Teen Clinic is a partnership between King County Health and Kent Youth and Family Services. Our on-site clinic has a Registered Nurse who conducts clinical visits, does lab work, and can prescribe medication. Two therapists offer 40 hours of mental health counseling each week to KPA students.
KPA features three unique program opportunities for Kent School District students who want a different learning environment from that of the traditional high school. They include credit achievement, credit retrieval, and dual credits; in addition, service learning and work with colleges and employers help prepare our students to acquire employment, enlistment, and college enrollment by graduation. Each program’s hours of operation are from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
· Kent Performance Learning Center is a partnership between the Kent School District, Communities in Schools of Washington State and Communities in Schools of Kent (CIS). The Kent Performance Learning Center provides multiple learning options for credit retrieval and credit achievement at all academic levels, in a positive learning environment. It combines personalized, self-paced online learning with service learning and community internships. On campus advisors, a CIS services coordinator, and over 35 community mentors meet weekly with students and assist them with career and college transition. The Kent Performance Learning Center is open to all students with a 7th grade reading level or higher.
· Kent Virtual High School is a Washington State approved Online School Provider. It offers full semester Advanced Placement, Core, and Elective courses anytime, anywhere, any place through the internet. Course offerings are approved by the NCAA and are taught by Washington State highly qualified and certified instructors. There is on-campus learning and technical support available daily in an online/virtual learning lab. All 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students with an 8th grade reading level or higher may enroll. Full, part-time, and tuition-based enrollment are available.

individual and group counseling as well as a variety of Pro-social activities for high school students. Our program is designed to facilitate the student’s goal of achieving and maintaining sobriety. Teens who struggle with drug and alcohol use combined with mental health issues often struggle in school. At KPA, we have found that an individualized learning plan, self-paced curriculum and one-on-one support can help students reach their potential.
Kent Mountain View Academy (KMVA) is an award-winning school, ranking among the top five percent in the State. As a small, choice school, KMVA is admission-based and serves a diverse population of 300 students in grades 3 – 12. Students and families describe our school as family-friendly, safe, supportive, and inclusive. We embrace our motto, Small School – Big Heart, as the cornerstone of our KMVA learning community.
Due to the current COVID situation, all clerical testing has been suspended for KAEOP applicants. Level testing will now only be done after the initial interviews for the finalists only. This means all applicants will be screened for interviews without passing the clerical testing for the position. Once interviewed, if you are a finalist, you will be required to pass the clerical test for the position you are being considered for.
- Performs complex bookkeeping tasks, usually requiring the use of KSD Budget Tracker computer software, keeping accurate student financial records of all student payments (ASB and GF), and payments for fines and transcripts for previous students. transferring necessary credits/debits to proper locations; assuring the proper and legal control of financial records; or collecting, preparing; and combining data from various funding sources.
- Coordinates, maintains, and updates ASB, InvestED Grants and Trust account records.
- Analyzes and reconcile general fund, ASB, InvestEd, Grants and Trust account reports generated and prepares reports as necessary to document transactions; reconciles status reports and maintains accurate records; provides reports to administrators, ASB, and Account Receivable, as requested.
- Maintains a high degree of confidentiality with regard to all district-related matters and records.
- Processes a variety of forms as needed, including purchase orders, student payments, travel requests, and invoices, and ASB program related forms.
- Responsible for all cash handling, receipting and reporting and preparing deposits on a timely basis and in accordance with District financial rules for cash handling.
- Assist in preparation of annual ASB Budget, in coordination with assigned administrators, the ASB advisor and ASB officers.
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent educational experience and three years clerical or general office experience with emphasis in bookkeeping; additional related or specialized training desirable; or any combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
- Completion of Kent School District’s clerical testing at the administrative assistant III (B) level, with a score of 70% or higher.
- Valid first aid and CPR cards, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training, and knowledge of modern health care procedures required for school positions.
- Knowledge of KSD Budget Tracker or other computer application of comparable complexity. Knowledge of general office processes/procedures and the use of a variety of office equipment.
- Knowledge of standard office computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, internet e-mail, or similar programs.
- Must have good customer service skills and knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, and English usage.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and modern office machines, including copier, FAX and calculator.
- Ability to maintain timely, accurate, and efficient record keeping, including preparation of reports from office records.
- Ability to learn new operations, procedures, processes, and use of new equipment
- Ability to organize, set priorities, and work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to exercise sound independent judgment, including appropriate handling of confidential matters, in accordance with rules and regulations surrounding the ASB accounts and sales tax.

- Provides secretarial support, including typing and/or word processing, graphics, data entry, file maintenance, materials organization and duplication, information recording, and records control.
- Acts as office receptionist, answer telephones and greets visitors; may open, sort, and screen incoming mail.
- Assists in preparation of materials, including collating, sorting, and stapling; assists with materials distribution.
- Assists with the production/duplication of staff materials, including routine use and maintenance of copier equipment (i.e., toner supply, paper supply, routine maintenance checks); may use laminator equipment and ditto or similar machines; produces transparencies; maintains related equipment/production records.
- Assists with the accounting and reporting of school records as directed including, but not limited to, student records, financial records, and general school records.
- In elementary positions, performs supervision of playground during recess and other scheduled student activities as directed.
- Monitors student behavior and takes appropriate actions; maintains related records; may monitor student behavior at crosswalks, bus loading, or in a lunchroom.
- Assists with the daily attendance reporting system, including home-school absence communications as directed.
- Assists with the production and/or distribution of school correspondence, such as building calendars and handbooks; school, district, and community newsletter information; and general public relations information.
- Provides for a friendly, open, and safe atmosphere in the secretarial office and school reception area.
- Maintains a high degree of confidentiality with regard to all district-related matters and records.
- Provides assistance to other staff, as needed.
