Service Technician:
Job Summary
The Service Technician position is responsible for installing and removing gas meters, meter settings, and regulators; inspects and tests service and house lines for leaks.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Uses test instruments as required to install, service, and adjust all gas appliances.
- Investigates gas service inquiries, such as no gas, leaks, gas odor, blowing gas, fires, explosions, and high bills.
- Advises plumbers, contractors, and prospective customers on service and house line installations.
- Will turn gas on /off for customers.
- Collects delinquent bills; reads meters; locates, cleans and repairs curb boxes.
- Uses pressure gauges to test for line leaks and gas detection instruments to locate leaks.
Required Qualifications for Position
- Diploma from an accredited high school or a GED.
- Successful candidates hired into Service responsible positions must complete Service Dept. training program and be able to pass ALL Service Technician testing within 12 months.
- Must have the ability to understand and apply mechanical principles and demonstrated skills in the use of hand tools.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated success in providing extraordinary customer service, particularly in situations where tact and diplomacy are needed.
- Must be detail-oriented and able to follow through on assignments with little or no direct supervision.
- Must be able to work effectively under changing priorities and conditions; be able to prepare legible, complete, and accurate orders; be able to understand oral and written communications.

- Successful candidate must have the ability to understand and apply mechanical principles and demonstrated skills in the use of hand tools;
- Successful candidate must complete the Service Department training program and be able to pass Customer Service "A" test. Candidate will have the option of testing after 12 months, with mandatory testing after 18 months training. If unsuccessful on the first test, candidate will be given one opportunity to retest.
- Positions are subject to applicable DOT Anti-Drug and Alcohol Misuse Prevention Plan (AMPP) regulations.
- All positions must be able to respond to emergency calls, work scheduled and nonscheduled overtime, and work a non-traditional shift (other than M-F, 8am to 5pm)
- Successful candidates must pass pre-employment Operations Job Fit Analysis Assessment, Aptitude Testing and participate in interviews. If offered a position, candidate must successfully pass a Physical Capability Assessment, Drug Screen and Physical if applicable, Motor Vehicle Records check and comprehensive Background check. Candidates that do not meet any of these requirements will be removed from the process and notified when they are eligible to reapply. Passing any of the required assessments does not guarantee employment but rather the opportunity to continue through the application process.
Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
- Experience reading/interpreting gauges and dials.
- Experience in the plumbing trade with natural gas experience and current OQ plumbing qualifications.

Field Technician:
Field Technician position is responsible for the installation, repair and replacement of distribution facilities such as main lines and services and for the operation and maintenance of construction equipment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Includes pinpointing leakage, making repairs, and replacing services or portions of mains
- Operates all light earth-moving equipment, such as backhoe, side boom, tamper, and hydra-crane.
- Duties include maintenance of said equipment (including cleaning, greasing and lubricating) and transportation of equipment and/or materials.
- Other duties include those performed by a Utility Technician on tie-ins, leakage repair and other construction operations.
Required Qualifications for Position
- Diploma from an accredited high school or a GED
- Must have a mechanical aptitude and be able to use various types of hand tools needed for repair of field facilities.
- Must have the ability to obtain a valid Ohio Operators and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and certification to operate Company trucks under the DOT/Ohio Motor Carrier Safety Regulations for intrastate drivers within 3 months of being awarded the job.
- Must be able to perform basic math calculations, prepare legible records and understand written and oral communications.
- Must have the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Must be dependable in terms of adherence to deadlines and presence on the job.
- Requires skill in reading/interpreting gauges and dials.
- Must be able to be certified to wear self-contained breaking apparatus.
- Must be able to work overtime and respond to emergency callouts.

- Experience of 24 months operating earth-moving equipment with knowledge of underground construction practices.
