Job Description
JOB TITLE: Unix Systems Administrator
WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday with flexible start times
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Unix Systems Administrator is tasked with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of UNIX-based systems, including Linux and/or FreeBSD. This role involves troubleshooting and resolving issues related to the operating system’s servers, hardware, applications, and software, and reporting any UNIX-related server problems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, configure, deploy, and provide support for Unix and Windows software.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic software and hardware issues.
- Collaborate with the Software Engineering Manager to develop an IT strategy that aligns with the company’s objectives, including budgeting and innovative solutions for IT improvements.
- Monitor and enhance security measures to safeguard company data and prevent breaches.
- Manage and upgrade systems to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
- Perform regular system backups and proactively maintain and audit network equipment and servers.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
- Knowledge of server virtualization and automation.
- Understanding of high availability and disaster recovery principles.
- Familiarity with networking hardware, including wired and wireless systems, VLAN setup, VPNs, routing, IPv4, IPv6, and firewalls.
- Experience with Linux and FreeBSD operating systems is advantageous.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience and certifications.
- At least three years of prior experience as a Unix Systems Administrator.
