POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs a variety of clerical support and other duties to assist the nursing staff in carrying out daily patient care activities. Prepares and maintains patient medical records. Transcribes and expedites physician orders. Functions as a Receptionist. Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
+ Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent and knowledge of medical terminology.
COMPETENCIES:
+ Must be able to read and communicate effectively using the English language and have basic personal computer skills.

+ Meets, greets and directs all patients, families, visitors and health care team members. Provides accurate and appropriate information.
+ Prepares medical records for ED/PC patients, inpatient admissions and observation patients. Maintains an accurate medical record throughout visit. Accurately completes unit logs.
+ Transcribes physician orders in a timely manner. Enters orders in the computer system. Prioritizes orders by identifying those with timed or immediate action. Notifies appropriate nursing staff or department.
+ Responds appropriately and in a timely manner to patient requests, including prompt acknowledgement to patient call bell.
+ Maintains good working relationships both within the department and with other departments.
+ Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
7. Continually assesses the work environment and takes initiative to perform tasks which improve work-flow, patient through-put, communications and/or the environment of care.
8. Answers telephone or intercom promptly in a polite manner and communicates information to the appropriate personnel/family.
9. Communicates appropriately and clearly to the charge nurse, co-workers and physicians.
10. Performs all aspects of indirect patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Places work orders and/or makes calls to resolve problems identified in the unit(s).
11. Performs other duties as assigned, to promote efficient functioning of the unit.
