Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Personal Lines Underwriting Manager to lead our team of underwriters and drive profitable growth. This remote role requires an exceptional leader with strong technical underwriting skills and a deep understanding of the Northeast region’s Personal Lines property insurance market. As an integral part of our organization, you will collaborate closely with senior leadership to refine underwriting practices, foster team development, and build strong relationships with key stakeholders.
This is a remote position. Our customers are located in the Northeast so candidates must be able to work during normal EST business hours.
Salary Range: $110,000 - $150,000 per year

What you will do:
- Lead market-facing underwriters, managing, guiding, and mentoring the team to enhance their technical and professional skills while fostering an engaged and collaborative learning environment.
- Oversee all aspects of team management, including setting and monitoring performance standards, conducting evaluations, and making compensation and management recommendations.
- Ensure adherence to quality assurance processes to maintain the integrity of business operations and compliance with departmental guidelines and standards while developing team training, fostering professional development, and providing mentorship.
- Contribute to organizational goals by bringing innovative ideas to improve current processes and procedures.
- Demonstrate advanced underwriting expertise, effectively addressing complex underwriting inquiries while staying informed on industry trends.
- Recommend underwriting philosophies and guidelines to support risk assessment and selection strategies.
- Monitor market trends and coverage exposures that may impact business results, collaborating with actuarial and senior management to develop and implement underwriting strategies.
- Enforce best practices and ensure team compliance with company policies, procedures, and federal, state, and DOI regulations.
- Participate in special projects, committees, and initiatives to shape underwriting direction.
- Manage relationships with producers by conducting detailed analyses of lines of business, books of business, classes, and segments to ensure profitability and growth.
- Analyze portfolio performance and profit/growth trends, recommending and implementing action plans as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in risk management, business, accounting, or a related field.
- 5-8 years of underwriting experience, with a strong background in P&C underwriting within the Northeast region.
- 3-5 years of leadership experience (required).
- Demonstrated ability to enhance and optimize processes for improved efficiency.
- Proficiency in leveraging technology to deliver results and collaborate with IT teams on enhancements and project implementations.
- Experience with ImageRight (preferred but not required).
- Prompt and accurate handling of applications in alignment with underwriting guidelines and state and federal legislation; may also underwrite policies as needed.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office products.
- Ability to collaborate as a team player with a dedicated focus on achieving and exceeding departmental objectives.
- Organizational, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills, capable of managing complex situations professionally.
- Strong customer service skills, emphasizing courtesy, professionalism, and effective communication.
- Capability of maintaining composure and confidence under pressure, effectively managing high-stress situations with professionalism.
