UCB is looking for a business-driven, process oriented upper-level undergraduate to intern with Solutions Quality, part of Global Quality. Students must have an interest in clinical research, quality control, business analysis, process improvement and stakeholder collaboration. Solutions Quality contributes to the global quality management of research and clinical development from the laboratory through first in man studies. The role focuses on the development of a high-level process landscape map of all standard operating procedures, to identify connections across Patient Solutions and to visualize the overarching discovery, development and delivery of new drug candidates. If you are interested in business analysis, collaborating across stakeholders, creating visualizations for global use, an internship with UCB will give you experience that is applicable across professional organizations, including those that require meeting global health regulations; e.g., FDA, EMA, PMDA, NMPA. This is a very exciting opportunity for an undergraduate, regardless of experience, to work alongside quality staff, research scientists, and clinical management experts as part of an integrated project team.
Responsibilities may include:
· Analyze current business processes for connectivity across Patient Solutions
· Identify areas for improvement and optimization
· Facilitate workshops and meetings to discuss process mapping content, strategies
· Create visualization of overall Patient Solutions process landscape
Learning objectives include:
· Enhance communication and collaboration among Patient Solutions and Global Quality teams
· Increase stakeholder engagement through common process landscape
· Building a foundation of knowledge in quality management activities across research, pre-clinical and clinical development program
· Gaining scientific and business acumen through exposure to various functions with UCB’s matrix organization
UCB Career Path
The Process Specialist role can develop into a quality or operations, based on the acquisitions of skills and knowledge gained in the initial role and the interest of the Intern. Collaboration and knowledge from creating a process map that arches across the full Patient Solutions process, will allow the Intern to develop knowledge in the GxP space across many functions, including Quality, Research, GLP and GCP protocol development and operationalization; e.g., non-regulated research, pre-clinical and/or clinical, and create positive working relationships with many stakeholders within both the Global Quality organization and Patient Solutions.
Depending on the interest of the Intern, they could focus their efforts on the Quality Management System to further expand their regulatory knowledge of GLP, GCP or GPVP, process improvement methodologies, and even strategic planning. Once the focus has been identified, the Intern could move into a Quality Lead study management role within R&D and PV Quality, a QMS Lead focusing on process improvements within Quality Systems & Governance. Over time with the increased specialized knowledge, demonstrated leadership skills, and continued positive relationships developed with stakeholders, the Intern could then explore team leadership and eventually work within a team of leaders to take part in strategic planning within the Global Quality organization.
