Full job description
Job Title: Data Fluency Intern Rare Diseases
Location: Raleigh, NC
Job Type: Internship (Hybrid - Onsite 2 times a week)
Educational Standing: Junior
Dates: May 19 - August 1st 2025
UCB is seeking a detail-oriented junior-level life sciences student to join our Data Fluency team for a summer internship. Part of our Commercial Data Operations, this team focuses on understanding the journey of patients with rare diseases—from initial prescribing to enrollment in patient support programs and medication dispensing through specialty pharmacies. If you’re passionate about improving patient lives, interested in the data behind patient journeys, and eager to learn about the vaccination requirements associated with certain biologics, this role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience.
Our Data Fluency team is dedicated to enhancing data quality, delivering insights into patient experiences, and promoting data literacy within UCB. As an intern, you’ll work closely with data scientists, real-world data specialists, and, importantly, our care coordination team, whose operations are essential for understanding how data is collected and interpreted in the patient journey.
Responsibilities may include:
- Collaborating with the care coordination team to understand workflows, patient support processes, and data collection methods, contributing to enhanced data fluency.
- Supporting the analysis of patient journey data, with a focus on rare diseases, biologic-specific vaccination requirements, and the challenges patients face in navigating these requirements.
- Assisting in generating reports and metrics that provide insights into patient care pathways and the operational data involved.
- Creating data summary tables and visualizations to support project insights and improve data interpretation across teams.
- Conducting literature reviews on rare diseases, biologic treatments, and vaccination protocols to enhance project knowledge.
Learning Objectives:
- Developing a comprehensive understanding of rare disease patient workflows, support programs, and vaccination requirements for biologics.
- Gaining insights into data integrity and data interpretation fundamentals through close collaboration with care coordination teams.
- Building a strong foundation of knowledge on rare diseases, biologic treatments, and the operational aspects of patient support services.
- Gaining scientific and business acumen through exposure to various functions within UCB’s matrix organization.
This internship is ideal for a biology student with a keen eye for detail, a genuine interest in improving patient lives, and a drive to understand the complexities behind patient support and data collection.
UCB Career Path
Patient Support Services Team, Data Fluency Team, Rare Incentive Compensation team
I believe candidates will have opportunity further down the road to join UCB or other organizations once the intern graduates and gains more experience. I do not expect the candidate to immediately/or in the near future join UCB.
UCB is new to and entering the rare disease world. The new complement inhibitor/ZILBRYSQ we launched has vaccination requirements that leads to tough challenges in data. I am a member of the ZILBRYSQ Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy implementation team, and we continue to refine and understand the challenges in data and capturing that data. This is a great area for an intern to explore, learn, work with the PSP team, and give something back meaningful to UCB.
