Position Purpose
Drivers perform the essential function of professionally and safely relocating fuel or pod trucks to support Erickson aircraft on various business contracts (firefighting, construction, etc.) They follow Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and maintain equipment to ensure contract compliance. They interact with field crew members, construction managers, and employees within Erickson. They represent the company in a professional and respectful manner at all times.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Relocates Fuel or Pod truck as required. Adheres to all FMCSA regulations
- Ensures documents are legible, current and correct and submitted on time. Documents include Log Book, Mileage sheets, Time card w/Crew Chiefs signature, Bi weekly performance report, Forest Service fuel inspection sheet, driver’s inspection log and expense report. Inspect trucks and equipment.
- Ensures the cleanliness of vehicle and equipment (inside/out).
- Ensures that vehicles and equipment are free of mechanical defects that would affect its safe operation.
- Receives and analyzes fuel loads, keeping accurate records. Performs specific gravity test on all incoming loads. Monitors Jet A fuel filters and change if necessary. Performs Audits on permit book and supplies.
- Ensures all inspections, permits and registrations are current and accounted for.
- Establishes routes for dispatch. Formulate routes in any direction to facilitate a safe and timely dispatch.
- Must be familiar with U.S. Forest Service contracts and processes.
- Performs routine and unexpected basic maintenance on equipment.
- Assists in fly yards in a construction setting (calling loads, assisting with hook-ups) when requested.
- Assists crew with major component changes.
- Trains new team members on job function.
- Communicates via phone or email on a consistent basis. Communicates in a courteous and professional manner at all times.
- Takes direction from the Fabrication & Fleet Services Manager and from the Crew Chief while on work assignments.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years driving semi-trucks. Class A CDL license with Tanker AND Hazmat endorsements.
- Acceptable driving record per Erickson’s insurance requirement.
- Must have working knowledge of Department of Transportation rules and regulations.
- Must be able to navigate state to state and maintain assigned vehicle.
- Must be able to safely relocate Hazmat and other assets.
- Must be able to identify restricted routes.
- Basic computer skills to utilize email, to text using smart phones, and ability to use computer based tracking/logging devices.
