Perform safety duties and represent Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation (TriMet) as a fully competent and accomplished professional while carrying out an array of duties in the development, administration, implementation, and enforcement of TriMet safety programs. Safety Professionals are continuous improvement experts who truly understands work processes as a system and offers solutions to improve the system of work before anything goes wrong or an actual injury or damage is identified. They also educate the organization on safety management systems, system safety, occupational safety, and construction safety for the organization’s transit systems, facilities, properties and projects. Ensure a commitment to safety through consistent and professional behaviors in performance of job requirements that demonstrate safety is a fundamental value that guides all aspects of our work. Project Safety Manager
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage agency-wide safety programs, ensuring adherence to safety policies and best practices.
- Mentor and motivate safety professionals, fostering a culture of safety.
- Oversee the implementation of safety management systems and occupational safety programs.
- Act as a subject-matter expert for safety-related concerns across projects and operations.
- Ensure safety principles guide all aspects of organizational work through effective leadership and role modeling.
- Perform other safety-related duties as required.
Senior Safety Specialist
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate safety initiatives across departments and projects.
- Provide subject-matter expertise for occupational health and safety programs.
- Monitor compliance with safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with teams to develop and implement safety strategies.
- Mentor junior safety professionals to build organizational safety competency.
- Perform related duties as required.
Safety Specialist II
Responsibilities
- Administer and enforce safety policies and systems across TriMet divisions.
- Perform audits, inspections, and evaluations to ensure safety compliance.
- Provide technical expertise and support in safety initiatives.
- Develop reports and recommendations to improve safety performance.

Safety Specialist I
Responsibilities
- Conduct basic safety evaluations and inspections.
- Assist in developing and implementing safety policies.
- Support safety-related construction, operational, and maintenance efforts.
- Collaborate with teams to ensure adherence to safety standards.

Safety Technician (Entry Level)
Responsibilities
- Conduct fieldwork and assist in implementing safety strategies.
- Perform administrative tasks related to safety compliance and documentation.
- Support audits, inspections, and safety training sessions.

OCIP Project Safety Manager
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement safety plans to meet OCIP goals.
- Conduct audits, hazard reviews, and compliance assessments.
- Coordinate with contractors to enforce safety plans and address hazards.
- Generate formal safety reports and provide data-driven recommendations.
- Supervise project construction safety staff.
Safety Certification Specialist
Responsibilities
- Develop and review safety certification plans and documentation.
- Conduct safety analyses, including hazard and risk assessments.
- Support integration testing and startup activities for major projects.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies and oversight committees.
- Prepare Certificates of Conformance and certification verification reports.
Requirements
Project Safety Manager
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in safety, including occupational health, safety management systems, or construction safety in public or private sectors.
- Proven ability to lead teams and implement large-scale safety programs.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Senior Safety Specialist
Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in safety management systems, occupational safety, or construction safety.
- Proven ability to implement effective safety programs and influence safety culture.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and safety best practices.
Safety Specialist II
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in safety, focusing on occupational health, safety systems, or construction safety.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on safety improvement.
Safety Specialist I
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of safety-related experience or equivalent education in a safety field.
- Demonstrated interest and foundational knowledge in occupational or construction safety.
Safety Technician (Entry Level)
Qualifications
- Experience in safety-related roles or formal education in safety is desirable.
- Strong willingness to learn and develop safety expertise.
OCIP Project Safety Manager
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction safety management, including OCIP.
- FTA Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program certification preferred.
Safety Certification Specialist
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in transit safety and security certification.
- Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program certification required.
